Portugal’s Diogo Morgado is playing Jesus in The Bible, the History miniseries being produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey. Principal photography is now wrapping on the 10-hour, five-part mini, which is set to premiere next year. It will tell some of the best-known stories from the most popular book in human history, from Noah’s Ark and the Exodus to Daniel in the Lion’s Den to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Morgado’s previous U.S. credits include the feature film Red Butterfly, and he plays the lead male role in the telenovela Laços De Sangre, Portugal’s top-rated series. He is repped in the U.S. by The Park Noack Agency and Spellbound Entertainment.
Sarah Bolger will recur on Once Upon A Time this coming season playing Sleeping Beauty in the fantastical ABC drama. Our pals over at TVLine reported the casting exclusively. The Irish-born Bolger starred on Showtime’s The Tudors and in the 2002 feature In America, which earned her a Spirit Award nomination. ABC has not announced a Season 2 premiere date yet for Once, which was last season’s highest-rated freshman drama.

Can’t wait to see the Bible series. Good alternative TV, hopefully.
I know History deserves credit for casting Costner in Hatfields but this Bible miniseries sounds horrible and with Mark Burnett producing?! really!?
While I’m happy that we have come to the understanding Jesus didn’t have blonde hair. But now he is of latin decent…. When will Jesus by Asian?
Both these shows belong on Syfy.
Jesus would not have been Asian. He came as man and looked like the men of his area. So one depicted as Asian would be inaccurate.
Men of Jesus’ heritage normally have dark hair and eyes and olive skin. However, David was “ruddy” which usually meant red or blonde hair and blue eyes. Jesus was considered to have a look of his own also, so he could be portrayed as fair or blue eyed or lighter haired. At any rate, I look forward to seeing this!
This guy is perfect!! Saw a preview and he is so kind in his face, for lack of better term. Most people play a creepy Jesus this guys nails it and God is going to bless this!!! Can’t wait until 3/3/13
Can’t wait….Love the stores in the Bible — best book ever written. So happy someone is finally bringing the stories to life. Can’t wait for my girls to see the stories on TV and have lots of good discussions. More movies should be done using the bible as inspriation…

My favorite Jesus has always been the actor in Jesus of Nazereth until i saw Diogo.I absolutely can’t wait til this movie finally comes to Telivision. When i picture what Jesus would really look like,it would definately be Diogo….
I think you called this one wrong. The Bible is riveting and inspirational. A huge hit with the public. What people need in these trying times.
