There were no premieres or finales Wednesday night but there was a lot of live action. With Christina Applegate joining as guest judge, Fox had a live two-hour So You Think You Can Dance (1.7/5) at 8 PM. SYTYCD, which will be on hiatus for the next two weeks for the Olympics, was down 6% from last week. Over on NBC, where the London Games will be broadcast starting Friday, America’s Got Talent (2.2/6) was live at 9 PM. Talent was up 10% from last week as the series moved toward its semifinals. CBS started the night at 8 PM with a Big Brother (1.9/7). The multi-night show was down 5% from last Wednesday for a season low.Earlier, CBS had Criminal Minds (1.1/3) and CSI (1.2/4) repeats. Fox won the night in adults 18-49, NBC in total viewers with 6.095 million.
Before Talent, NBC had The CLIOS: World’s Best Commercials (1.2/4) special at 8 PM. At 10, the network aired Jimmy Fallon’s Primetime Music Special (1.6/5), essentially the greatest hits from late-night talk show.
ABC primarily had a night of repeats with The Middle (0.9/3), Suburgatory (0.8/3) and a double dose of Modern Family at 9 PM (1.3/4) and 9:30 PM (1.5/4). ABC ended the night with the fifth episode of the crime docudrama series Final Witness (1.0/3), which was down 17% from last week.

Like I said, NBC can’t wait to start airing the Olympics tomorrow night to help boost their sagging primetime ratings and glad that Big Brother show tanked badly last night, maybe getting it one step closer to a cancellation once and for all.
CBS will never cancel Big Brother as long as they make even just a small profit. They are making more money than if they aired reruns of stuff, and they use the 3 hours per week to market their upcoming shows for the new season.
It is unlikely CBS could come up with a different summer series that would do better than Big Brother. So, Big Brother is here to stay.
