Warner Bros has acquired screen rights to the novel Beautiful Disaster, with Donald De Line producing. In the Jamie McGuire novel, a young girl named Abby Abernathy tries to overcome a dark past by reinventing herself in college. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand. Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’ apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

Such a HORRIBLE, misogynistic book…with tons of grammar errors to boot.
It can be interesting when you have a misogynist female author. Just saying…
Can be, but wasn’t. This book is a pretty much a load of steaming crap.
Sounds more like a Screen Gems flick to me.
WTF? This book is horrible. Warner Brothers acquires rights to this but passes down Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey?
This started out as a Twilight fanfiction with Edward & Bella characters – just like 50 Shades was Master of the Universe with Edward & Bella. There are thousands of fanfic stories with the E&B characters and were very, very popular. Now all the authors are trying to sell them and make big money like E.L. James has.
I liked the book errors and all. It’s exactly what the title is, a Beautiful Disaster. I am excited!
I couldn’t agree more! Everyone and everything has flaws and to find beauty in and along with the flaws, well that’s truly living. I am beyond excited to see the movie (hoping the cast fits) and even more excited to read Walking Disaster! Understanding everyone has an opinion but let’s not send negatives into each others lives. Enjoy the holiday season all!
Beautiful Disaster was never fanfiction, Twilight or otherwise.
Next up for Warner’s : Awkward Entanglement – about two fourth graders – a sweet girl and the schoolyard bully who fall for each other after a series of sexy encounters in the bathroom near the lunchroom.
This actually doesn’t sound half bad. I mean it’s better than A Brady Bunch reboot. Let’s go! Should score big with Tweens and college kids.
I freaking loved this book! Cant wait
I liked BEAUTIFUL DISASTER. Granted the self-pubbed copy had some issues, but the ATRIA version is definitely cleaned up. I didn’t have a problem with Travis. He is what he is. Abby was the one who lied about her background and being from “Kansas”.
Kara, Abby’s roommate, called it, the relationship was a disaster, but this is what Abby wanted. It’s fantasy for some women. They want the tatted bad guy who will worship them. Take it with a grain of salt and enjoy the story. Also, perhaps pick up the new edited version as well. A good editor can work miracles. (something 50 Shades never had)
Erin, are you SURE this was not ever published as Twilight fanfiction because I have read three different articles stating that it was.
This is my favorite book. And the only book I’ve read more then once! A movie is a FANTASTIC idea! Just because others don’t like it doesn’t mean they need to talk down on the book or author. I don’t like Lord of the Rings but I ding go around bashing it.
Lived this book read it twice and can’t wait until walking disaster in April!
I am so excited. Beautiful Disaster was a FANTASTIC book. Jamie McGuire is an incredible author who deserves all that Warner Bros. and Atria has to offer and more. I wish all her the best. Good luck!
Beautiful Disaster is nothing like Twilight. It was a amazing book and deserves to be played out in a movie. If you are going to downgrade the author and the book my personal advice would be to actually read it instead of listening to what people say about it!
This was never Fanfic! Sorry
this book is horrible. but yet i can’t put it down.
Who would ever compare this to ‘Twilight’? The’Twilight’ series doesn’t have any similarites to this book. Plus ‘Twilight’ was pretty atrocious. Yeah theirs grammar errors. But come on. What book doesn’t. Read the book and don’t tell me that you couldn’t put it down… You should pursue this book to a movie. And the best luck to Jamie McGuire(:
This book was amazing finished it in a day, they should totally make a movie out of it:D…
I am absolutley 100%, head over heels in love with this book! I’m hoping with all of my might that the movie is just as good as the book, also hoping the cast is well chosen. If you are anywhere withing the age of 17 and 100 READ IT !!!!!!
This book is my absoloute favorite i dont care about the erros I think Jamie McGuire has out done herself this book is amazing and truly fantastic a movie will be a great idea for this book.I have fallen in love with this book and i am looking forward for the movie and the sequal “Walking Disaster” and if you didnt enjoy this book as much as i have then i do not understand your reason for reading this book. Maby because unlike you we enjoy a little romance and thrill then this book genre is clearly not for you and you should stop with this hate towards the writter and you shouldnt waste your time complaining and just get over it by the way Jamie McGuire i will say this again because you deserve to be recognised for your great writting talent you have really out done yourself and you are a fantastic and truly amazing writer and i wish you all the best luck for your future. -B
you are right she is great and people should get over people dont make sense some times
after reading 50 shades of grey, i knew i will never find a book as interesting as it. i read this book after and i still find myself going head over heels for this book, it has some corny parts, but it was MORE realistic and the fact that TRAVIS is irresistible , i couldnt stop thinking about such character. i found many similarities to 50 shades, but it didnt stop me from reading this book in one day
OHHHMYGOooooooOSH! I just read that book. Totally UH-MAAAAA-ZING!! I can’t wait for the movie.
Yes. I’ve seen comments that say it was originally fan fiction, too, but they never provide a link. Google it, you won’t find it. No one can. That’s because it doesn’t exist. The author had it on her first website that it was never fan fiction, and def never Twilight fan fiction, although Twilight did inspire her first novel Providence. The author said in an interview that she wrote fan fiction once for the tv show Roswell, but she never finished it and can’t find it anywhere. She never published that fan fiction.
I thought this book was fantastic! I read A LOT and could not put this book down. Had it finished in 3 days. I am ECSTATIC about the movie and “Walking Disaster”. It’s so refreshing to read a book like this. Thank you, Jamie!
