EXCLUSIVE: With Biblical epics the rage in Hollywood, here’s another. Will Smith is eyeing a film about battling brothers Cain and Abel as his directorial debut. The project is set at Sony in development and is being produced by Overbrook Entertainment. This has been in the arsenal for some time, and won’t be Smith’s next film, but it is an intriguing development for the actor and producer. The project has gone under the working title of The Redemption Of Cain, but I’ve confirmed that it’s now being developed as directing vehicle for Smith, who’ll likely star in the film as well.
This comes as Darren Aronofsky starts production with Russell Crowe on Noah, and both Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott have Moses projects percolating.

You have to KNOW how to direct first. And the lesson is: Find a good script. Your selections sound like crap!
If anyone should do this movie and star in it it should be Mel Gibson. Will is not a dramatic actor.
If it get to the point of being made and released I have a suspicion the same defamation routines pulled against Mel Gibson because of The Passion..will not be played against Will Smith ..and yes its as obvious as color.
The message of cain and abel is organized religeon’s trying to please God by works and their own ideas when in fact all they (cain/organized religion) had to do is/was follow Gods instructions. In the old covenant make proper sacrifice, and in the new covenant believe that Jesus is the son of God and recognize him as the ultimate sacrifice to attone for mans sins. Gods instructions to salvation are very simple and straight foward. Religeon tacks on all these extra things and these extras are being struck down just as cains were. Christians reading this need to ask themselves if their church is focusing on Jesus Christ and what he did at Calvery or is it focusing on the extras. Good works are a result of salvation not a path to it. Good luck portraying all this Will.
I agree they need to be able to portray this in the movie but they need a dramatic actor someone with depth and Will doesn’t have that.
The portrayal of the pyschological and spiritual struggle between Cain and an Abel would be interesting and could be suspenseful with the right director and actors.
This is for the Bible Thumpers. I’m a Christian and I read the Bible. Have the thumpers read this?
Romans 5:13
Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break.
Let that sink in and then think about what happened to Cain in the end or even Sodom and Gomorrah.
Is this based on the short story “Herman Cain’s 999 Plan?”
Sweet another exploitation of the Bible to get rich off of from the stupid people of the masses.
Sorry, this story was definitively illustrated in Jack Black’s “Year One”.

Jesus Christ, y’all are infuckingsane.
I’ll go check it out. I love “end of world” films, and this will be a sort of “start of world” film. As far as following the bible and being true to the word, you guys do realize the bible is not the word of God right? It’s a collection of fairy tales from the various semitic peoples who inhabited the middle east. When you compare the various creation myths of that region, they all seem to have a lot in common, including a great flood, virgin births, etc etc. To me, it’s just early people without a lot of knowledge, trying to make sense of their world. So I always get a kick when the believers debate the finer points of an entirely fictional story.
So let’s see. By my reckoning, there are 6 characters in this entire story. God, the serpent, Adam, Eve, Abel and Cain. That’s it, right? There’s no tribe, and the only woman in the entire shebang is Eve. So that means Adam and Eve got really really REALLY busy and produced tribe after tribe of brothers and sisters who committed incest, or Eve had sex with one or both of her boys… somehow these 4 people populated the planet. And because it was all so incestuous, we now have an explanation for why the world is so screwed up. But how will they turn this into a two hour movie experience worth watching? I can see it now: God: There’s the tree. Don’t eat the fruit. Eve: Why? God: Because I said so, God d**n it! What dialogue!
Wow, so many unbiblical comments in one place.
How about my favorite, Herman Cain and his son John McCain.
Ah, I thought I would never get to use that.
Will Smith star his wife as Eve daughter of Xenu ( or whatever that batsh:t religion calls him)
Whats with the religious movies? Are they coming back in vogue? How about retooling Samson and Delilah ? LOL. Neither this nor Noah sound interesting
Leave biblical movies to Kirk Cameron and Steven Baldwin, et. al.
Tom can play Xenu!
The entire point is being missed here. Hollywood, who despises God, is so desperate for anything to make money is using God, the Bible, the stories whatever to make more money! Unless its made from a true believer, I won’t go see it or buy the DVD! Period! Here me? Speilberg? Hanks? Smith?
That is the most Gnostic, unBiblical interpretation of the Genesis account ever … we don’t what the fruit was, the Bible doesn’t say … read the account, Adam knew (had sex) his once, but gave birth twice … so, both sons are Adam’s, twins, like Esau and Jacob, a chosen and unchosen seed line … what becamebecame a serpent was once a beast of the fieldpw
If the movie is to be based on the Jeffrey Archer book “Kane and Abel” then the characters have nothing to do with Cain and Abel in the Bible and they were white.
Only Mel Gibson has had the guts to make a film about Christ..at least one that was powerful and positive. So Will Smith choosing something from the Old Testament is safe and irrelevant.
I heard they rewrote it as a buddy movie where Will Smith is the wise cracking basketball playing ne’ere do well, and Jackie Chan is his Kung Fu kick first ask questions later side partner. They solve crimes in ancient Israel and hijinks ensue!!!
If a Redemption of Cain is attempted, you can be sure it would be by his next of kin in Hollywood
First of all: There are other regarding Cain beyond the Bible (The works of Josephus for instance) so there is some material there for a work that could possibly make a movie interesting.
Secondly Lucifer is mentioned in Isaiah or Jeremiah or one of the larger books of the prophets (if memory serves).
Thirdly: Race is completely up to the creator. Human populations have moved too and fro throughout the centuries and only became stationary in the post dark-age centuries. (Why do you think whites are referred to as Caucasians?)
Make sure you study your Bible first – don’t make it into a Hollywood “fairy” tale and do not blaspheme the word of God….
“I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’ that the blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.”
Luke 11:49-51 (RSV)
Notice that Jesus called Abel a “prophet.” I think this sheds light on the incident. God probably revealed his will about the sacrifice to Abel, but Cain rejected God’s word and his prophet and killed him instead.
