• This sounds so promising. Those of us in town hope the cast and crew are as wonderful to work with as the experience we had with the Terrance Malick film with Ben et all.

• And still Julia Roberts is not right for that part. She’s not appropriate for Meryl Streep’s daughter. It will be a real shame if “August Osage County” turns into “Steel Magnolias.” This is shaping up to be a “Steel Magnolias” cast. Forcing the original material into Sam Shepard X TV? No thanks. You can smell it. This is that guy Weinstein stirring up the Best Picture black cauldron labeled “middle brow common denominator” hitting all the bases for a year- end multiple nomination push.

• Needs an age-appropriate Joanne Woodward who you’re gonna believe as Meryl Streep’s daughter. Sultry “Long, Hot Summer.” Stuff like that. In a way, like Faulkner, it’s southern gothic like Walker Percy or Flannery O’Connor. Genteel goes prescription drug berserk!

• U get it, right? What part don’t U understand? Tt’s gonna be Meryl Streep in a black wig and chain smoking like the old bag in the play. Hence Julia Roberts. Streep’s great but Jessica Lange would have been great too.

• i think julia will be fine and meryl can pull it off. those worried about the look. what does phylicia rashad playing violet in broadway tell you? even estelle said that no matter what cast plays it, the words work. it’s that well written. they’d have to modulate the bombast and tap into the melancholic nature of the tale a little bit more but i’m not worried.

• I saw the play at the San Diego’s Old Globe last May, It was FABULOUS- one of my all time favorite plays. Meryl Streep is my Goddess she will do great- and I honestly see an Oscar nomination for this one, as for the other actors I am not sure. I like Julia but I don’t see her as Meryl’s daughter in this movie. Let’s see how it goes!
