EXCLUSIVE: Joss Whedon already is set to write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers sequel which now will follow first Iron Man 3, then Thor 2, then Captain America 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014. The Avengers 2 date is now May 1, 2015. The Avengers so far has grossed $1.46 billion worldwide. Whedon just signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015 that includes developing a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. Disney continues to make the most out of its $4 billion acquisition of the Marvel superhero factory.

Eh, not much of a surprise. Marvel usually stakes out that weekend anyway as that Saturday is the annual Free Comic Book Day.
Any chance they go for true IMAX instead of 3D? No? Oh well, worth a shot.
I just hope they don’t go overboard adding Avengers, and definitely don’t take anyone away. If it ain’t broke Marvel! Also let’s have a really great and dangerous villain this time.
Amen. Please, please don’t start adding characters. Look at the X-Men franchise. By the awful third one, each character had 10 minutes of screen time to fit everyone in. But I have total faith in Joss. (Which I’m sure means the world to him.)
Ben Foster’s appearance was the funniest thing ever. What the hell did Angel have to do with anything?
Trust me on this, if we get ‘Thanos’ in the sequel there will be no complaining from you about having a great and dangerous villan, i can assure you of that. But ‘Loki’ is a great villian in his own right, and he was the first villian ever introduced in the original “Avengers” comic in 1963, so it was only fitting for him to kick things off.
“A still untitled film?” Um Nikki, it’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, a fact confirmed by several sites, this one included.
Its actually AntMan.
No it isn’t. Edgar just showed his test footage to assure us that they’re still working on it. Guardians is that film (in fact she updated the story, I see).
You’re right, “Antman” is still in the rumor/devolpment stage and has not been offically announced yet, “GOTG” has.
Sony would be smart to let Whedon use Andrew Garfield / Spider-man in the Avengers sequel. It will only add audience to their next Spider-man sequel. An appearance in what will surely become the highest grossing movie of all time can only help Sony and Spider-man. Fox should consider it too for X-Men characters. Even if these guys appeared as a surprise in Act 3, it would be a win-win situation for everybody.
No, it would be needlessly confusing. Is Garfield’s Parker in the same universe as the others? If so, why is Iron Man’s first appearance in that world not a major news event? And, if a freakin’ Norse God and alien invaders exist, then why was the Captain so skeptical about a giant lizard monster?
“Avengers 2″ then foretell third installment then a forecast impracticable reboot/spin-off. Good olé Hollywood glad to see nothing has change!
Damn those greedy money hungry Avengers my movie was supposed to be the new franchise I was promised a trilogy instead I’m stuck up here on Barsoom this miserable red planet in low gravity galactic hell. Can those Galaxy Guardians take me back to earth? I promise I’ll stand in line to see Avengers 2 if someone can take me home.
Thanos definitely fits the “really great and dangerous villain” bill,Katherine. You’ll see!
I’m really pumped about the prospects of seeing ‘Thanos’ in an “Avengers” sequel, ‘Ultron’ & ‘Kang The Destroyer’ are other fantastic potential villians in future “Avengers” installments as well.
Wow, that’s nearly 3 whole years away, what makes them so sure that theatres will still be in existence in 2015?
Yeah let’s hope so, but at least 3 years is the normal 2-3 years sequel pattern.
Maybe they believe movie theaters will still exist in three years because, I don’t know, The Avengers grossed $1.4 billion this year, and The Dark Knight Rises is on its way to $1 billion, and, oh yeah, a few people still go the movies and stuff.
Well, if the world doesn’t end in December.
Whedon should cast people from Buffyverse.
Eliza Dushku as Tigra.
Eliza should play Jennifer Walters.
I’m all for that — if they can find a place for Gina Torres and Nathan Fillion (yes, they were both guest stars in the Buffyverse before Firefly, may I remind you), I’ll be a very happy camper.
