EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea Handler is helping another female comedy performer break into television. Handler and Tom Brunelle’s Borderline Amazing Prods. has sold a comedy project to NBC created by and starring Ingrid Haas (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World). Based on Haas’ real life, the relationship comedy centers around a father and daughter. When Ingrid’s parents come to visit her in Los Angeles, she accidentally breaks up their marriage, forcing Ingrid’s dad, Wayne, to move in with her and her roommate in their Melrose Place-style apartment building. Handler, Brunelle, and Chelsea Lately co-executive producer Brad Wollack will Executive Produce and supervise Haas’ script. Universal TV is
producing the project, which stems from the rich new overall deal Handler inked with E! late last year, which includes a first-look pact for her company with NBC Universal. Last season, CAA-repped Borderline Amazing, which is behind both Chelsea Lately and After lately on E!, produced the NBC comedy Are You There, Chelsea?
Haas, repped by CAA and Mosaic, is a classically trained Canadian actress who performed Shakespearean Theatre before switching to comedy. Since moving to the US, she performs regularly at the UCB theatre and is a contributor to Hellogiggles.com. She recently did Michael Kosta’s Comedy Central pilot and Craig Robinson’s VH1 pilot.

It could work, if they do the opposite of everything they did for Are You There, Chelsea.
As usual NBC hires an unfunny chick to decide what’s funny.
Seriously! When are they going to put something good on? They keep churning out crap.
That sounds hilarious
I laughed reading the premise. Hope they can pull this one off.
disagree
Thank god, finally a comedy from a woman’s point of view.
Like Tina Fey? She was awesome! So’s Amy Poehler.
But Chelsea is the Pia Zadora of Late Night.
Ingrid is awesome. Glad her hard work is paying off.
Well done Tasha Brown, VP Production and Development. You worked really hard on this one!
Ingrid Haas is a huge talent…Chelsea Handler is not. Leave Ingrid alone and she’ll make you some money, Chelsea.
Ingrid has star written all over her, She is the next big thing! The new Helen Hunt
CONGRATS Ingrid. We miss you at Aveda!
Hilarious!!!
So much for Renata’s “don’t like shows about people being forced to live together” line.
Ingrid is a very smart and sweet girl, but i am amazed that NBC has gotten to the point of buying scripts from (and starring) people who’s only credits are UCB and a couple of cable pilots that didn’t go. Does Chelsea mean that much? What has she done in the scripted space that means anything?
as opposed to what? who SHOULD they be buying things from? you don’t know what materials were used to support this, and it’s kind of refreshing there are ways for new talents to get in the door.
Ingrid is a talent crying out for a chance. She is beautiful, funny
and ready to move to the top.
Congrats to Ingrid , I am so looking forward to your show!
Hi Ingrid,
Your dad sent us the above article and I must say that
we are both very happy and proud to read about your talent,
beauty, humour etc.
We wish you lots of success in your future career.
Hetty and Arthur
congrats to ingrid!
It was only a matter of time, huge fan of the Haas. Get it Ingrid!
Looks to be a good one! Glad NBC can recognize upcoming talent. Can’t wait to laugh.
It’s amazing how many people despise this woman and she’s still on. Give her lots and lots of rope.
Whitney got cancelled, Chelsea got cancelled, and Chelsea’s last book bombed. She’s.Not.Funny.
Whitney bombed and got cancelled, Are You There Chelsea? Bombed and got cancelled.
When are the networks going to realize that the old way is over?
Guess what kind of shows aren’t on NBC? True Blood, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, I could go on. But, NONE OF THEM ARE ON NBC.
Guess why? NBC is run by people who think Chelsea Handler is funny.
I hope this can live up to the quality of NBC’s last show about an up and coming female comic; the masterpiece that we all know as “Whitney”. While that sort of lightning-in-a-bottle magic will be hard to recreate (everything just came together for “Whitney”, like a perfect storm) this looks to be another entry into the long list of successful NBC comedies of the last 10 years.
