He is Hollywood’s hottest new action movie star, so there’ll be a feeding frenzy when Chris Hemsworth decides to take new agency meetings. ”He is not taking meetings for now but maybe in a few months,” an insider tells us. Hemsworth is the star of Thor, Snow White And The Huntsman and its expected sequel or spinoff, The Avengers, the upcoming Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse, and of course Marvel’s upcoming Thor 2 and The Avengers 2. He had been with IFA talent president Ilene Feldman for about 4 years. The actor is staying with ROAR Management’s William Ward who discovered him about 5 years ago. But we hear the problems with Feldman developed first around the negotiations for Thor 2 and intensified around the time Spielberg decided to cast him as the lead in his scifi epic Robopocalypse in mid-July. “They had a fallout over several things. She just played everything wrong,” a source tells us. “They just were not on the same page for the last month or two. But the last thing he wanted to do was to hurt Ilene.” One of the key jobs for his new agency is raising Hemsworth’s salary: Marvel pays very little, and Hemsworth received $5M for the Huntsman role. Really hard to predict where Hemsworth is ultimately headed. His brother Liam is repped by Ward and WME. Ward’s wife Louise Ward is a UTA agent repping Channing Tatum. And CAA now represents a lot of Marvel’s top talent including almost all The Avengers stars and will no longer be hamstrung by its no-poaching agreement with Feldman. Stay tuned.

wow, that’s a huge blow to IFA.
In other news, there were bagels at ICM this morning.
he should sign with Louise. no question.
Abso-fricken-lutely.
Is it that big of a deal? IFA already is going to get the $$$$$$$$$ from all of the above mentioned movies, right?
If Louise gets him, between him and Channing, wow, just wow…
He should go without an agent for as long as possible at least two or three years he’s already booked up that far anyway. All he needs is a lawyer to field offers and a smart manager to give him good advice. He should force the agencies to submit scripts with directors attached to his manager.
Once he signs with a big agency he loses the leverage he now has. Better to keep them all jumping through hoops just to see how far they’ll go to get him attached to one of their projects. He gets the best scripts offered and the agencies all get equal opportunity to attach him to a script. Then at some point I swoop in and sign him.
All he needs now is that “smart manager” you mentioned!!
“I’m supposed to field offers. And that’s what I do!”
“Field offers? Who told you that, the Agent Fairy?”
— “Tootsie”
What an odd move – something pretty bad must have gone down between the two of them for Chris to leave like this.
will ward discovered him in australia. ifa, did a fine job, but get your story straight people.
What? What is wrong with his career? He has gone from nothing to a good small part in Star Trek to starring into huge franchises to working with Spielberg. Umm, doesn’t get much better than that. I call that playing it right. I use to work as an assistant at a big agency who didn’t see his potential in the beginning like IFA and they passed on him.
That’s pathetic. You dropped the wrong rep, dude. Your manager is using you. Don’t be a chump.
Good for the HEM! Stay away from the current blood suckers out there still twitting like morons about being the current ARI; current red carpet wannabes — like whoever this MYSTERY EXEC. fool is. Hemsworth knows, that with the right script and directors and
cast mates like in THE AVENGERS and THOR and CABIN IN THE WOODS…he can only get better.
Stay with a lawyer; the hell with everyone else. Landscape’s changing as we speak, especially in distribution in this digital world. He’s smart enough to form his own prodco soon, and call the shots about his career even more.
Wow! Wow! Finally, Chris can be represented by someone worthy of representing a bigtime movie star. How can people bag on Will and roar? They are kicking ass for all of their clients and breaking some of the hottest young talent in town. It’s amazing what that company has done. Ilene is worthless and has a bunch of morons working for her. The veil was bound to come off at some point. He should sign with Bryan Lourd, Ari, or the smartest agent– Will’s wife, Louise (who has killed it for Channing).
The skill of his manager is irrelevant as a professional actor needs an agent and a manager and they are two very different things.
and legally managers can’t solicit projects for actors. only agents can.
not sure why he dropped his agent. she got him into great projects to showcase his skills and abs (thor). yes, marvel pays like s**t but the exposure is incredible. he wouldn’t even have been on spielberg’s radar if he’d not done thor. marvel resurrected robert downey jr’s career. without iron man there would’ve been no sherlock holmes.
and the question is did hemsworth open snow white or did kristen stewart?
The secret is that Australia has hundreds probably thousands of handsome rugged likable charismatic guys just like Chris. They all want to be the next mega-star the next Mel Gibson without the crazy personality of course and their Aussie accent helps them greatly here. Look at Sam Worthington same career trajectory. A smart talent agency would open a branch in Sydney or Melbourne designed to find the next Aussie superstar and not just male stars but female stars as well. Paul Hogan was a huge comedy star in Australia then he came here as Crocodile Dundee then he vanished never to be heard from again.
Great move, now he can become an even bigger star with a real agent.
Wow something must of happen but he still has those other movies to do and hope he make the right choose for mannger soon.
Who cares…he is a small fry compared to IFA’s big talent like Angelina Jolie and more importantly RYAN GOSLING who is a way bigger star and has so much more industry credibility and adoration from the public than any Hemsworth wiil. Gosling clearlry has loyalty if you look at his rep…mngr and agent both small scale and yet he is top of his game right now and can do no wrong!
Problem here is Ilene Feldman cannot get actors the REAL$$ because she doesn’t rep movie stars. Everyone knows Angelina doesn’t really pay her 10% of everything and Ryan Gosling doesn’t command any real money. She is really more like a manager who helps some of her clients grow big careers. And they they all eventually leave her, anyway. ALL of them. That says alot. Yes, actors are an inherently opportunistic and disloyal bunch, but only one of the actors that she’s help build a “star career” for is still with her. And he’ll get smart and leave too when he realizes being at IFA has a ceiling. They are Boutique, not Big League.
Why bring Ward into this? After all Ilene is the one who Hemsworth felt wasn’t doing her job well so he decided to move on.
An idiotic, uninformed comment. Negotiators on the other side of that table wised up years ago. Talent is talent, and many a boutique agent can secure the money if the talent commands it. Only reason any of these fools go to CAA is access to other talent and packaging, not financial perks.
Would love for you to name even a few of these “many” boutique agents who rep stars who command $10-$20M a picture. By all means please INFORM?!
Seems like some of you are forgetting one thing: Chris has been working quadruple time around the clock. He is locked into three mega-franchises requiring three movies apiece. Not to mention having worked on Cabin in the Woods and Red Dawn, also doing a part in the Star Trek movie. He just wrapped working on that race car movie, and will be doing Robopocalypse. Tally that up. He’s worked or soon to be working with Spielberg, Ron Howard, Kenneth Brannagh, JJ Abrams, and Joss Whedon. And let’s not forget he happens to be one of the major attractions in a little film that grossed a billion and a half U.S. dollars in the fastest time yet possible. And yet he gets 5 million dollar contracts, after literally raking in billions in the short span of 2 years?!? It’s his time, and it’s a shrewd move on his behalf to not let these money-making behemoths wring him dry with little to show for. Great move Chris!!!!
5 million was a fair price for him as the Huntsman. Marvel is very cheap only Robert Downey gets paid well. Chris should be getting 10 million for Robopocalypse. If that’s a big hit he’ll get 15 to 20 for the next big movie he does. He doesn’t need an agent to get him more money he is on the up escalator already. The only thing he could do is demand more money for Thor 2 and Avengers 2 and for that he needs a good lawyer to renegotiate his contracts. Marvel will cough up 50% more for Chris but probably not much more than that.
I like both Ward’s – he should go to UTA, Louis is actually one of the smarter agents (from any of the majors) who I have had the pleasure of dealing with, she actually reads is responsive and understands great material!
G (PGA)
I’m sure UTA is lining its “team” of talent agents right now. “Let’s send 57 scripts…” Fast forward 3 months, “we lost him to WME…” Have fun at the Hollywood Improv finding the next SNL 8th “star.”
It is a tough, unpredictable business to be in and trust, plus loyalty is hard to find in an egotistic community of acting.
It s all in God’s hands anyway. He will find his own path to his destination…..good, bad or ?????
