Clint Eastwood will be speaking at the Republican Convention in Tampa on Thursday according to Fox News. The network’s website is reporting that a GOP source confirmed “that Eastwood is indeed the mystery speaker”. Thursday night’s line-up has a “To Be Announced” speaker scheduled ahead of Senator Marco Rubio and GOP Presidential nominee Mitt Romney himself. Eastwood’s name was floated earlier this week as the speaker along with former VP nominee Sarah Palin, Donald Trump and even a hologram of former President Ronald Reagan. No stranger to politics, Eastwood served as the Mayor of Carmel, California from 1986 to 1988. He supported John McCain in 2008 and endorsed Mitt Romney earlier this month at a Sun Valley fundraiser. “Now more than ever do we need Mitt Romney, I’m going to be voting for him,” the Oscar winner said as the GOP nominee stood next to him on August 4. If Eastwood is really heading to Tampa to speak Thursday evening, he’s going to have to get going soon. Deadline has learned that as of Wednesday afternoon, the actor/director was still at his home in Carmel. Eastwood’s latest film, Trouble With The Curve comes out on September 21, 2012.

If he is the mystery speaker, them I am for it. I also would have liked Sarah Palin. Either one of them would have made my day!
RJ: we must not be watching the same convention! I think Chris Christie was terrific, as well as Ann Romney. Go Romney!!!!
this is a man’s man; he reminds me of my father-in-law, who always made me feel like the eastern-university semi-wimp I was in those days. He’ll be able to cut through the Obama BS without a weapon, save for his love of country and it’s founding principles.Go Dirty Harry!
WooHoo! Man I was worried about him for a second with that chrysler ad… Your the Man Mr. Eastwood! Just wished John Wayne was still alive to speak also!
Yes it would be great if John Wayne were with us and spoke also but EVERY single American, regardless of political party knows without a doubt who John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, and Clint Eastwood would be backing in this election. The moral of these American greats leave leave no room room for doubt.
Head them in cut them out cut them out head them in Rawhide, Rowdy Yates is the man of the hour to boost Romney’s campaign
Nowadays you hear of conservative actors keeping their mouths shut for fear of being black listed in liberal Hollyweird. Clint Eastwood is one of very few who can look at Hollywood straight in the eye and say, “Go ahead… make my day.”
Even if this man’s man does nothing else than eloquently parrot the party line, he’s still the man. That said, I gotta believe that unlike Reagan and W he’s not a tin man/scarecrow composite out of the Wizard of Oz. If there is a god in heaven he will issue a call for the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower to return to its roots; and end this billionaire funded, Tea Party driven nonsense of continuing to pile on to the super-rich while telling the poor to go f-themselves.
One of the few, the proud, the Hollywood men who are worth the millions they have made. I’d like to see Duvall out there to. Get Low. And get right. He plays to American values, and apparently he lives them. I tip my hat to westward, to the cowboy.
You didn’t really think that Clint Eastwood was an Obama-kind-of- guy.
Did you?
The GOP told Clint Eastwood they would custom-build a podium for him if he would speak at the convention. He said, “Go ahead, make my dais.”
niceeeee!!
He’s sane enough and intelligent enough to be able to give his politcal opinion without people getting upset by it. I have no problem with old school Republicans like him.
The ones that bother me are the religious fundamentalists and neo-cons.
Exactly.
Sorry, joe, the fundamentals of America and the Constitution are timeless. Principles don’t change with the calendar.
This is not big news and certainly not a big deal. It’s junk news.
Eastwood pandered to Obama and the liberal left with that car ad/”it’s halftime in America” TV ad during the Super Bowl 20 months ago, which was clearly his encouragement for the country to get behind and support Obama during the second half of his term in office…..as if that would help the country.
Now Eastwood is pandering to the right by speaking at the convention. Make my day and just stay home Eastwood and leave us alone.
This is really dumb.
The purpose of a convention for a political party is to display your candidate and his platform.
EVERYTHING in the convention should be geared towards the candidate.
So having a movie star show up, and one not known for being a supporting player, and making it a “surprise” appearance shoots everything you’re trying to do in the knee. What are people supposed to talk about the next day? Your candidate. What WILL they talk about the next day? The movie star.
Go ahead…Make my day…..PLEASE!
And why not? Every nitwit Hollywood “celebrity” shills for Obama. Why can’t Clint speak his mind? OOOOPPPS! I forgot. Only liberals are allowed free speech, everyone else is silenced by their fascism.
Doesn’t matter Dem, Rep, Lib, Conservative, Libertarian, Indepenent, The Good, Bad, or The Ugly a true lengend is riding into town. Enjoy.
Clint Eastwood is a national treasure. I’m glad to see that most here understand and appreciate that, but a few are carping about his being for Romney and not Ron Paul. That is nonsensical. I like Paul too but he never had the slightest chance of being elected president, which I’m sure he always realized himself. The important thing here is to support someone who’s actually electable, and that is Mitt Romney. Clint has been misinterpreted from time to time, as with that commercial in which some folks mistakenly thought he was supporting the Obama administration.
Have a little more faith, those of you. Clint’s heart is always in the right place, he has never turned his back on conservative values and I’m confident he never will. I sure hope he does speak tomorrow night — what a great boost it will be if he does!
Clint’s politics have never matched up exactly with EITHER political party. It would be unbelievably sweet if he got up on that stage and called out EVERYBODY on their B.S.
That said, I’m actually not convinced the report is right. He’s spent his career AVOIDING this kind of thing; I can’t imagine why he’d start now. (And as a man who actually IS a very canny “job creator”, I can’t imagine he’s THAT enthusiastic about Romney, who’s only been good at making money for HIMSELF).
Being a clear thinker himself, who better for Mr. Eastwood to align himself with? The problem we have is that we can no longer afford or tolerate “business as usual” in the Republicrat or Demopublican mold. Obviously, electing a new President is Job #1 but we also need a strong Congress to moderate RINO leanings. Paul Should havea Cabinet post at least.
@naill Yes, Clint is a ‘a national treasure’ & he was also an elected office who knows how career politicians lie to voters. Clint was no ‘career’ politician.
It’s great to see someone from Hollywood that takes a stand even against the vast majority of his co-workers for an honorable cause.
Along those lines you’ll need to read about this small town council take a stand again federal tyranny & ends up starting the 2nd American Revolution. A thriller & so real so I recommend it.

With Clint speaking then possibly he’ll become the lightning point for others in Hollywood to speak up.
Love it. Clint is going to p-off a lot of Carmel by the Sea uber wealthy liberal hypocrites by showing up at the Republican convention. Its gonna “make my day” I’m lovin’ it!
I’ve always liked and respected Mr. Eastwwod for his work “any which way you can” excepted, and my respect now is even higher.
I’m also a big fan of Clint Eastwood, regardless of politics! “The Eiger Sanction” was his greatest. He’s a man who does what’s necessary to accomplish the goal, pragmatic, with a great scowl. I can honestly say that I think his work just keeps getting better and better…
Oh come on…Even Ron Paul was practical enough (smart enough) to run as a Republican. These big Hollywood types call themselves Libertarians because Republican is a dirty word in Hollywood. And ‘independent’ sounds like you have no convictions at all.
