Viewers tuning in for the Comedy Central roast of Roseanne Barr will not see resident roaster Jeffrey Ross’ joke about the recent shooting at an Aurora, CO movie theater. The network will cut the quip, which was met with groans from the audience, from the version that hits the air on August 12.
In his schtick, Ross turned to fellow roaster Seth Green. “Congratulations”, Ross told red-haired Green, according to EW. “This is actually a really big night for you. You haven’t gotten this much attention since you shot all those people in Aurora”, a reference to the Aurora killer who also has red hair. “I’m kidding!” Ross continued. “You’re not like James Holmes. At least he’s doing something in a movie theater that people remember”. On Howard Stern’s radio show this morning, Ross said he knew that he was likely doing the joke for the live audience only and it won’t make it to air. Comedy Central is still deciding on his Jerry Sandusky pun. Ross, who came to the event dressed as late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, ended his roast with “Now I’m gonna take Seth Green and hit the showers”!
Some racy jokes from the roast will likely make it to the broadcast, like roast master Jane Lynch’s “Fuck Chick-Fil-A” line, which Comedy Central just released as a promo for the roast. Also released is a promo with Barr thanking “surprise” roaser, ex Tom Arnold.

I chuckled…
Lovin’ Chick-Fil-A……
What’s with some comedians? Just because you call yourself one doesn’t mean you should say every sick thing that pops into your head.
From Tracy Morgan talking about stabbing his gay son to Tosh making cracks about raping women, where did our taste go?
Gone with Johnny Carson. He was a pretty good gatekeeper back in the day for sifting the decent comics from the nothing but shock value types.
That’s the nature of comedy. There really shouldn’t be a measure of taste within it, since it could limit jokes that are, despite being offensive, pretty funny. It annoys me that these jokes are told because they are designed just to shock and really have no subtext or criticism or well, anything other than: Shock, now laugh! But I accept these jokes, since, well, without them, it would mean that people aren’t trying out there to tackle taboo subjects with wit and intelligence. You just have to shrug these off and move on.
That’s a lame excuse. It’s not taboo to crack jokes about the Holocaust or slavery or pedophilia; it’s insulting, classless and disrespectful.
There’s a difference between pushing boundaries and just plain o’le disgusting.
GET OVER IT YOU CRY BABY !! —IT’S A JOKE WE LIVE IN A VIOLENT COUNTRY, AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MOVIE OR T.V. BUSINESS
I think a lot of comedians try to shock because they don’t have the talent to actually entertain and be funny– as seems the case here.
Agree. A lot of modern comics lack talent. They may be witty and clever but repetitive metaphors simply don’t cut it. Clever but not laugh out loud funny.
Chappelle, Galifianakis, Farley, Foxx, Rock, Ferrell, Cedric The Entertainer= Funny.
I’m really getting sick of the “I don’t give a f**k” humor from fat comedians who hate themselves. Aside from being offensive, calling somebody with red hair James Holmes is just not that funny.
These idiots don’t realize that Chick Fil A is making more money now than they have ever made. The owner of the company has something called a First Amendment Right to believe whatever he wants to believe and guess what? The majority of Americans share his belief. The more the left slams Chick Fil A the more money they are going to end up making. People are now making a point to eat at Chick Fil A restaurants all over the country. Everything the left ever does always backfires in their faces. Keep it up.
I believe “protest” is also covered under something called a First Amendment Right.
You seem to be under the misapprehension that the First Amendment protects people who voice their opinions from others voicing contrary ones.
They should have cut Roseanne instead.
Yeah, Comedy Central, by all means cut the edgy and funny stuff. Futurama, that’s about your speed.
The Jerry Sandusky thing was pretty funny.
I wish they’d keep the joke, just to showcase how lame and unfunny these so-called “comedians” actually are.
Never heard of this Ross guy and I can tell that he is not a true comedian just by the way he is trying to get head lines by being outrageous. What a moron.
KCCO!
What’s a roaser? Is that like a roaster?
I see, so the Aurora shooting jokes are too far, but not the Paterno/PennSt? ok, whatever.
