The liberal cable stronghold Current TV hosted a breakfast this morning at TCA complete with its very own on-site radio show. The syndicated Stephanie Miller Show was broadcast in the background and simulcast live on Current, as it
is every weekday. In fact, the network has ramped up its homegrown live programming significantly since the beginning of the year after losing its signature primetime show hosted by Keith Olbermann (who departed at the end of March in an acrimonious huff, followed in April by the inevitable multi-pronged lawsuit over his termination). The Olbermann situation “is going to be in litigation for the rest of my life,” said Current president David Bohrman with only a trace of exaggeration. But he was wistful about the lingering impact that Olbermann had on the network. “It’s unfortunate (how things ended),” he said, “but Keith was transformative in that when we put his program on, it really showed (Current partners) Joel (Hyatt) and Al (Gore) what we should be doing. And to that end, it was critical. It helped set us on the right path”.

That path now finds Current TV in some 60 million homes after having launched in 2005 as it continues to ramp up its roster of originals. In the past few months, it’s picked up simulcasts of radio shows hosted by Miller and Bill Press as well as a series with sitting California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom. In September, it adds The Joy Behar Show hosted by the longtime panelist on ABC’s The View. And this morning Current announced that it’s developing a primetime show with comedian and commentator John Fugelsang. Bohrman noted this morning that when he arrived to run the network nearly a year ago, Olbermann’s show was the only live original series the network was producing. Now, with the addition of Fugelsang, Current will soon have 11 hours of live programming each weekday. Bohrman was asked his opinion of The Newsroom, the Aaron Sorkin-written and produced HBO show that looks and sounds like something that might be on Current. He compared the show to what he did in producing Newsnight with Aaron Brown at CNN. “I know the show has gotten a lot of criticism,” Bohrman noted, “but I like the sense it has of whether they’re being accurate or not on the inside stuff.” Why not enlist Sorkin to do a show at Current? Bohrman: “He hasn’t asked.”

Liberal cable stronghold should be changed to cesspool of far left lunatics.
Can’t stomach this channel anymore. It was more fun when it spent most of the day doing updates from Burning Man – three years before.
I love this network and am really excited about the addition of Behar and Fugelsang. I would like to have it on all day with original programming. Cenk does not hold back and that is refreshing. There is enough room in the broadcast world for channels that appeal to all different political ideals. The beauty of a remote control is you can change the channel. If you don’t like the liberal channel, turn it off.
It doesn’t matter to me who you add to your lineup. I wouldn’t watch. Couldn’t get the network because my cable company didn’t offer it. I pestered them mercilessly with phone calls, emails, & tweets to try to encourage them to negotiate with Current to carry their network. That was when Keith was on. I started in June of 2011 & continued through March of 2012 to try to persuade my cable company to carry Current. That abruptly ended with Keith’s departure. No longer was I interested. Even though I couldn’t get the network on my TV, I was able to find a website that carried Current & did have a chance to watch some of Keith’s shows. It wasn’t the same as TV (sometimes there were problems with glitches on the internet), but it was better than nothing. It was just good to see him again. Missed him terribly when he left MSNBC. In my opinion MSNBC made the biggest mistake of its life when they allowed Keith to leave (or should I say “forced him out”). Then when the Current gig came along, I hoped Keith had found a home. Well we know how that ended. It is shameful what Current did to Keith, using him for their own devices & then kicking him to the curb. He was the best thing that could have happened to your network & you blew it big time. You may have been able to really put Current on the map with Keith’s help & expertise, but you chose to dump him instead. It’s disgusting. That’s why it wouldn’t matter to me who you hired in the future. I have no desire to watch with Keith being gone & especially after the way he was treated. Not only did MSNBC make the biggest mistake of its life, so did Current. I know I’m not alone in my thinking. If, in the future, my cable company would decide to offer Current, I still would not watch. For me it is very simple. If Keith lands a new TV gig in the future, that’s the network I’ll be watching. Period.
Well said Sandy. Current can give God his own program and I still won’t watch. What Current did to Keith was inexcusable and they will never get a 2nd chance from me. Current has shown they have no integrity and they’ve lost my trust (and that includes Al Gore). Period.
It is a shame that more credit is not given to the one person who actually put Current TV on the map, Keith Olbermann. If it were not for his move to the channel, I would not have even heard of Current. My provider did not supply access so I had changed companies, only to have them fire the one man worth watching. Current may be in 60 million homes but those 60 million are not all watching. Stop trying to make this channel more than what it actually is, a fly by night operation that is not equipped to broadcast camel races. It seems to me that these ‘liberal’ stations of MSNBC and Current are not really truly liberal. Otherwise they would have retained the primary liberal voice in America still broadcasting on their dial.
