It would have been a surprise if, with the start of the Summer Olympics in London, we didn’t see big numbers this week for Team USA — the U.S. Olympic Team’s official channel. And it earned its place on the winner’s platform in Deadline.com’s rankings of Google-funded YouTube channels for the week ending August 1. Team USA’s views soared 266% vs the previous week to 821,022, jumping it 27 slots to No. 26. The YouTube universe also had a strong week as total views in the channels we track rose 31% to 80.8M — the highest number yet in the 11 weeks we’ve been following their performance. The top 10 channels accounted for 58% of the views. There were two changes in the top group: Vice jumped 6 places to No. 9 and Noisey was +2 to No. 10. Everyday Health made room by dropping 10 slots to No. 19 while YOMYOMF was -4 to No. 14.
The biggest gainers measured by views include: SourceFed (+3.3M to 8.6M), Motor Trend (+3.0M to 5.1M), WWE Fan Nation (+1.9M to nearly 6.0M), The Warner Sound (+1.5M to 9.3M), and DanceOn (+1.1M to 3.2M). Making the biggest jumps in rank: Life and Times (+40 to No. 48), Team USA, Bleacher Report (+19 to No. 36), Official Comedy (+17 to No. 51), and tied at +16 were Clevver Style (to No. 49) and SB Nation (to No. 45). The biggest decliners by views: Spaces TV (-661,911 to 81,367), Bammo (-553,350 to 135,012), Everyday Health (-530,978 to 1.1M), My Damn Channel (-451,145 to 880,749), and Shut Up Cartoons (-328,233 to 2.4M). And those falling most by rank: Spaces TV (-55 to No. 75), Bammo (-39 to No. 63), Look (-26 to No. 85), 123 Uno Dos Tres (-25 to No. 64), and The Stylish (-24 to No. 95).
