EXCLUSIVE: Kick-Ass 2 is very close to getting its Dr. Gravity. Donald Faison is in negotiations to join the sequel in the role of the baseball bat wielding masked character who fights alongside Kick-Ass. The Scrubs alumni will be joining returning casting members Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicolas Cage as well as new addition John Leguizamo in the Universal Pictures financed film. Kick-Ass 2, as Mintz-Plasse let slip at Comic-Con last month, is set to start shooting in September. The movie will film in Toronto and London. No stranger to the big screen, Faison has appeared in Skyline and Remember The Titans, among others. The actor currently stars in The Exes, which is in its second season on TVLand. Kick-Ass 2 is being directed and scripted by Jeff Wadlow, based on the Mark Millar and John S. Romita Jr. comics. Matthew Vaughn, who directed the 2010 original, is serving as producer on the sequel. Faison is repped by APA and Intellectual Artists Management.

YES.
This news kicks ass!!!
Great get for Donald Faison. The guy is a very solid actor
Congrats Donald!
I love Faison. He always deliver, even when the project itself doesn’t.
Chocolate bear!
Only if Zach Braff can co-star as Dr. Acula.
Great casting – always hoping for good projects with Faison. He’ll knock action/comedy out of the park.
I’m a little worried about the quality of this one. First of all, Matthew Vaughn is out as director, and he and Jane Goldman aren’t even involved as writers, so there’s this new guy on the scene is both writing and directing it. Now comes news of C-list casting (Faison and Leguizamo). And on top of all of that, the direction they’re taking Hit Girl’s story sounds incredibly lame. She’s going from being one of the coolest butt kickers in ages to being reduced to some teen girl jealousy high school dramedy nonsense.
You’ve got the main cast all back, THANK GOODNESS, but aside from that I’m just skeptical about how all of this will turn out. I so badly want to be excited, as Kick-Ass is one of my favorite films of the last decade, but sheesh…I just don’t know.
Donald Faison and Kick Ass 2: two things I never thought I’d see on the big screen.
You never thought you’d see Donald Faison on the big screen? What about “Remember The Titans” or “Clueless”? C’mon…it’s not like this is his first time at the rodeo. I gotta say I’m really excited to see him in a completely different type of role for him. I definitely wanna to see him kick ass!!!
so smart of universal to cast multi-ethnic in their supporting roles. the benetton ad approach worked for their Fast & Furious franchise, so why not apply it to the comic genre, where it’s much needed. and doubly smart to cast actors w/ comic timing like faison & leguizamo — the comedy is one of the best parts of wadlow’s script!
AWESOME casting! Donald is so genuinely likeable and a great actor. Very excited about Leguizamo as well. Both are truly comedically gifted. Can’t wait to see KA2!
That’s really amazing news! I’ve been a fan of his forever. Can’t wait for this movie to come out!
It’s amazing to me that LionsGate let this go to Universal. The first might not of made the money they hoped for in theaters but was huge on home video which means part 2 will make more this go around. I guess they feel that Hunger Games, Expendables and the a SAW reboot give them enough franchises.
If kick ass is one of your favorite movies then your opinion really doesn’t mean much. Kick Ass is a “C” grade movie, going by your ratings scale. Both Faison and Leguizamo had hay days and are still in the biz. C grade actors don’t work solid lead roles for 10 years. Brrrap Brrrap!
Vince, you have no idea what a good movie is. Kick-ass was incredible and moving. Please don’t speak anymore
Really, Nick? “Incredible and moving?” I think you’re the one who has no idea what a good movie is. I’m so tired of fanboys and their peurile taste (Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim). Movies like this are fine but keep them in perspective. They are NOT deep or significant cinema.
Loved Kick-Ass. Love Donald. It’s win-win!
Go Donald! So glad his talent is getting the recognition it deserves. I’m very excited to see what he’ll do with this role. Inspired casting so far, let’s hope they keep it up.
