More than two years after FX greenlighted Outlaw Country to pilot and almost a year after the network passed on the Nashville-set drama, the pilot is making it to air. Outlaw Country will air as an FX Original Movie this Friday at 10 PM, following a rebroadcast of Oscar-winning mob drama The Departed. There has been no promotion for the broadcast, which is considered a burnoff. The version that will air is the final pilot that was delivered to FX after it ordered script rewrite and reshoots last summer. I hear the pilot came in long, at about hour an a half, making it suitable to air as a movie. This is a rare public broadcast of a busted pilot not developed as a backdoor movie as they normally never see the light of day. Outlaw Country, a crime thriller/family drama set against the backdrop of Southern organized crime and Nashville royalty, starred Luke Grimes, Haley Bennett, Mary Steenburgen and John Hawkes. Outlaw Country was in the same pilot batch as Powers. FX passed on that pilot too but is keeping its prospects alive with a re-write by Charles H. Eglee.

There was a time when during the summer there were anthology series whose episodes were made up of failed pilots. This lasted from the 1950s into the 1980s. In the UK there was a series called Comedy Playhouse that aired pilots and the most popular then became series. An interesting idea.
i am absolutely thrilled that a project from two of my favorite writers, and a stunning ensemble cast, will at least see the light of day. it sound infinately more interesting than NASHVILLE.

Mary is such a wonderful person, she has an amazing singing voice. Her sister sent us a message that she has made an album or is working on one, I can’t remember exactly what her sister said but. We r all looking forward to it. She worked so hard to get where she is and the whole family is extremely proud of how far she has come.

I just saw this tv show/pilot movie and loved it. I am stunned that they passed on this. What the hell was fox thinking? Bring back ‘Outlaw Country!’
I also loved it! I stumbled upon it by accident and watched about 10 mins and got hooked so I recorded it and watched it later cuz I was actually watching something else at the time. I went back and watched it and LOVED it! I really liked the chemistry between the two younger characters. I really hate how it ended though. I want to know more about what the deal is between her mother and his uncle. I want to know how things pan out with her thinking he killed their friend Orville etc. I can’t believe they just ended it like they did! BOO!! bring us more! We need closure!!!

I saw Outlaw Country and I absolutely loved iot!!!! But trade Sons of Anarchy for it.. are you mental!!!! How about just complete a season of Outlaw Country for the fans. The Fx will have the 3 greatest shows on Cable, SONS, JUSTIFIED, and OUTLAW COUNTRY!!!!!

Loved, loved, loved, this movie and Luke Grimes was wonderful as Eli Larkin. Please bring this back as a series. Also, Loved Luke’s singing and songwriting! Want to know where can we buy the songs with Luke singing them? Especially… Reckless Road. !! Loved it !!!
Why on earth was this show canned? I stumbled across this last night (luckily) and couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. Just told a couple friends to watch next week too, then I find out some morons cancelled it..: good job FX. Dumbass’
I loved the movie.. I can not believe they did not pass it! That is a shame! Shame on them.. This has good actors and kept me watching the entire time and so much better then allot of junk they show. I finally found a sieres I really wanted to watch and that was it.. Shame Shame Shame!!!

i just so happen to catch this show and it was MESMERIZING!The uncle-Larkin epitomizes scary, amoral and treachery. I love the nephew! he is so handsome! an honorable guy and YES SEXY! Is the daughter Larkins kid? Will the daughter ever find out that the guy she just spent the night with didn’t kill her cousin? NASHVILLE!! aRE YOU SERIOUS? tHAT IS some contrived crap that has already been done with Gweneyth Paltrow in Country Strong! Outlaw has multiple layers and depth and is so much more interesting! BRING BACK OUTLAW COUNTRY. i WOULD much rather watch Honey Boo Boo if im going to watch a show about hillbillies than Nashville…same plotless wortthless mindless tv…but Honey Boo Boo is at least entertaining

OmGOSH i just finished watching this movie and i loved it!!!!! I am so left hanging!!! I can not wait to see what will happen next that is to say if there will be a next. I couldnt leave my seat not even during a commercial for fear of missing something!! Im heartbroken that FX hasnt picked this up as a series!!!!
