No surprise here. According to a new poll by Gallup, the majority of Americans want to see changes in NBC’s coverage of the Olympics. Some 71% of those viewers watching the London Games ‘a lot’ want NBC to air the Olympics live and again on tape delay in primetime. Even those who are watching “a little” and “none” of the games prefer both live broadcasts and tape delayed coverage (57% and 43% respectively). NBC has come under fire for its tape-delayed over-edited but highly rated Olympics.

NBC is in this business to make money and you can’t do that by showing popular events in the daytime when viewership is low. Sometimes what the viewers want is not in NBCs best interest. I do not work for NBC.
Their coverage has been atrocious. They’ve consistently delayed the big events to the final hour.
This I agree with…if CTV and BBC can do this, why can’t NBC? I give them credit for increasing their weekday daytime coverage but they need to make the important events live in the daytime and then they can re-air them in the evening hours and remove the wee hours of the morning re-broadcasts in the process, as this will also apply to the Sochi games 18 months from now.
Hang on, why the fuck would I want to watch a sporting event that happens every 4 years live ? NBC what a turd !
Why does the media insist on talking about these Olympics as being “highly rated”? The audience share numbers are a tiny fraction of what ABC used to have.
Yes, there are myriad other viewing choices now, but I don’t think the old ABC crews would have had any trouble trouncing the competition from cable. The Olympics are a unique event, and properly broadcast there is absolutely no reason why they should ever achieve less than a 30 share.
If NBC had broadcast the Olympics live, I would have been parked in front of my TV 16 hours a day, and probably would have kept it running while I slept. In fact, I probably would have adjusted my sleep schedule to accommodate my preferred viewing.
Absolutely, I need to see the rhythmic gymnastic finals live as they happen! Oyez, the same people who have time during the day to watch the Olympics are the same people who have time to answer polls.
Honestly, what is the point of showing an event at 2pm if no one is home to watch it? If you really need to see an event live there was always the Internet.
