HBO’s True Blood and The Newsroom had a solid finish to their fifth and first seasons, respectively. True Blood drew 5 million viewers for its season finale at 9 PM, up a fraction from last week’s 4.93 million and down a hair from the fourth season closer last year, which posted 5.05 million. For the combined two Sunday plays, the episode, True Blood‘s last with creator Alan Ball as showrunner, logged a season high 6.3 million total viewers.
Following at 10 PM, the season finale of Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom drew 2.3 million viewers, up 17% from last week for a series high. Also a series high was the series’ cumed audience for the 10 PM and 12 AM airing, 2.8 million. Both True Blood, which averages a gross audience of 11.3 million viewers per episode, and Newsroom (6.7 million) have been renewed for another season.

Best new show.
Loved that Russell is gone! Bill is now a freakatic- oh la la Eric and Sookie! PoorJason! Andy with four babies??? Totally fantastic!!! LOVE Layfette!
The Newsroom is absolutely fantastic. Favorite line from True Blood this season – Andy: “Jesus Tits!!!” Ha.
Thanks for the spoilers Trudi!
Aaron Sorkin is the master word composer. Newsroom is fantastic. All the cast are terrific, and I hope that Emily Mortimer gets the recognition she deserves.
Week to week you can feel her angst and creative dedication.
Fabulous!!!!!
“Newsroom is fantastic?” You guys must not be watching the same show I’m seeing. They should kill it now and put it out of its misery.
Apparently, we are watching different shows. And, may I ask…if it is so bad…why are you still watching it? Are you into pain?
+1
The newsroom is awful. I stuck with it b/c I wanted to see how the season played out, but it was just painful. (And I say this as someone who loves Sorkin’s work and lists “Sports Night” in my top 10 series of all time.)
This show managed to make me hate Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterson, Emily Mortimer and Allison Pill – all of whom are typically fabulous in everything they do. The women on this show are ditzy and frail, the men are preachy, the show’s tone is smug. This program made “Studio 60″ look subtle by comparison.
71ST GOLDEN GLOBES AWARD WINNERS TV SERIES
Aaron Sorkin – Best Writer
Jeff Daniels – Best Actor
Emily Mortimer – Best Actress
Olivia Munn – Best Supporting Actress
John Gallagher Jr – Best Supporting Actor
This show is a gift.
The only problem with the supporting actors and actress is the Golden Globes have nominations across a wide variety of platforms including: series, made of tv movies and mini series. Usually they pick one of each.
I like the Newsroom and it definitely wells up emotion inside of me because I really wish I could slap Emily Mortimer’s character week after week, so grating! Great show though, very witty just needs to tone down all the obvious and overt bashing of Republicans. Glad it’s returning
The show doesn’t “bash Republicans,” per se. It bashes the conservative extremists who tend to drown out the moderate, reasonable elements of the Republican party. It also bashes the members of the media who are too timid to ask tough questions of politicians in whatever party, and/or too lazy to try to educate the public generally. Anyway, although the show was far from perfect, it was still a terrific, “must-watch” for me every week. I’m really looking forward to the next season!
I loved Newsroom!!Can hardly wait for new season. Aaron Sorkin does a good job, again. Acting is superb;story line fantastic. Hooray for HBO,another top show.
So glad that the writers of Newsroom do not underestimate the public. We want to be challenged. We need to question all.
