In his first show since news of the layoffs at The Tonight Show broke Friday night, Jay Leno last night addressed the cuts at the top of his monologue. (video below) “Welcome to The Tonight Show, or as Comcast calls us, The Expendables!,” he said. “As you may have heard, our parent company has downsized The Tonight Show. And we’ve consistently been No. 1 in the ratings. If you know anything about our network, that kind of thing is frowned upon.”
NBC, a long-time No.4 in the ratings, squeaked past ABC to claim third place among adults 18-49 last season buoyed by the Super Bowl and Sunday Night Football. “I have more bad news: turns out we’ve been taken over by Bain Capital!,” Leno said, adding: “I knew something was going on. Friday morning I woke up and there was a peacock head in my bed.”
