My Boys alum Kyle Howard and Joel David Moore (Avatar) have landed the leads in USA Network’s comedy pilot Paging Dr. Freed, lifting the contingency on the project. Written by Michael Feldman and to be directed by Marc Buckland, the single-camera comedy centers on gynecologist brothers David (Howard) and Jonathan (Moore) who inherit their father’s thriving medical practice after he suffers a heart attack during an attempt at “playing” doctor with his young secretary. Along with taking over the family business, these brothers also must deal with something else their father left behind – their overbearing, neurotic mother. Trusted and beloved by their patients, these guys are professionals when it comes to women but only from the neck down. Fox21 is producing, with Katy McCaffrey and Brad Johnson exec producing alongside Feldman. Howard is already in the USA family — he has been recurring on the network’s series Royal Pains. Moore, repped by ICM Partners and Underground Entertainment, did an arc on Fox’s Bones.

Another busted USA comedy pilot!
Without a doubt, from one FELDMAN to another FELDMAN and being
totally objective….I think the script is a winner. Very funny !
I wish USA would take a chance on something different..every series they have sounds the same.
I like to bash on everybody and everything as much as the next guy but — this script was honestly the funniest I’ve read in years.
Looks stupid and Kyle Howard was a fool to let lc go
I am definitely going to watch this. And what is LC?
There isn’t one USA show I can honestly watch with any interest or passion. It’s just all on the nose, middle of the road, formulaic junk. But then we’re in a place where junk makes money so perhaps I am the fool in this equation. Yes, I think I am. On the other hand, when one gets to the end of his/her life, does it matter at all that they worked on, created or broadcast a series that merely fills space. What I can guarantee is no one will look back at that stage and think, “Royal Pains,” “White Collar,” those meant something to me.
Psych is one of the only three dramas on TV I watch (along with Bones and Lilyhammer). Most are way too dull. Psych is probably one of the second closest thing to an hour long comedy ever made (behind The Good Guys).
Joel David Moore cracks me up on Bones. This pilot sounds fun. The neurotic mother, the fact that they are gynocologists, all of it. And if they are trusted and loved by their patients, it sounds like there is some substance in the writing to make you love the characters. Looking forward to seeing it! Good luck to all involved.
Way to go, BJ & KM! Two of the best creative producers in town.
