John Malone’s company made its intentions clear today when it asked the FCC to approve its “Application for Consent to Transfer of De Jure Control” of the Sirius XM’s broadcast licenses. Liberty said that it “intends to purchase sufficient additional shares of Sirius common stock” so that — when it converts the preferred shares it owns — Liberty “will own more than 50% of the total outstanding shares of Sirius,” the satellite radio company says in an SEC filing. Liberty already controls about 48%. It added that the transfer of control “will be completed within 60 days of Commission consent” of the request. Regulators have to ensure that the public interest would be served by having Liberty control the airwaves. Sirius says that it “will cooperate fully with the Commission in its evaluation of the Application.” In May the FCC rejected Liberty’s request to take control of Sirius XM based on its claim that it already had “de facto” control even though it didn’t own a majority of the stock. Investors have been curious to know whether Malone intends to run Sirius XM, or sell it. Last month Malone said that “there’s no question that eventually Sirius will be an independent company. The question is in what time frame and under what circumstances.”

Fire Howard Stern ! He’s old and outdated.
ThatGuy – Howard is THE ONLY thing worth listening to on Sirius.
Howard is still on??
He has like what 2 shows a year now?
It is just four shows a year, and you really should tune in, as Howard has become everything he used to crack on everyone else about.
Two reasons to listen to Sirius:
1. Howard Stern
2. No commercials . . .
I love Sirius and hate Howard Stern.
I Agree!!!
unless you listen to Howard Stern, then it’s nothing but commercials.
Howard’s show is now just one three-hour commercial!
No commercials . . . lol, ever feel like you have been sold a lie
Howard works maybe two days a week and spends that time on the air talking to uninteresting lackeys or doing less than that. There is NO reason to listen to Sirius at all. Just skim through Marksfriggin and you’ll see for yourself. I stopped listening at the height of Charlie Sheen’s lunacy and I don’t miss it like I thought I would. His talent now parallels his wife’s lol
After the free with purchase sirius xm runs out how many local car drivers become paid subscribers. As to the Howard/Opie and Dopie thing who cares. The number of subscribers that pay for Howard or Oprah or any of the other “celeb” channels is very low compared to the number of subscribers who use xm or sirius as thier radio source because they are commercial travelers of one sort or another. If this paid radio has any future profitability they need to understand this simple fact and change thier thinking to reflect it! Chances if them actually doing that and building a surviving media format. 10%
YES, Howard is in his late fifty’s however his daily show on Sirius XM is based on the same thing we all view on television nightly; (Reality Shows)!
Granted, Howard is not for everybody. Like most things that can take one out of their comfort zone, he’s an acquired taste!
I can only assume that the person who calls himself (ThatGuy) wasn’t a subscription member before Sirius & XM merged or has forgotten that Sirius was “Several Million Subscribers -BEHIND- XM Radio” & had (NO CHANCE) of catching up or passing XM until Howard Stern was Signed to a [Multi-Year Contract]!!!
Once Howard went ’LIVE’ subscriptions went through the roof resulting in Sirius passing XM Membership by Millions, then the Merger happened resulting in Sirius having to pay off ALL of XM Radio’s Outstanding Debts which were Several Million as per the FCC & ~ The Rest Is History…
Sirius never had more subscribers than XM, and still doesn’t. Stern may nave been responsible for thel bump in subscribers when he first went to Sirius, but the overall gain in subscribers is more likely attributed to new car sales which come with radios.
Howard barely works as it is… fans are lucky to hear him three times a week. Wouldnt be a problem if he actually put some effort into the show. Ive been listening since 1995 and the show is completely unlistenable.
Stern has no interest in his own show. He would rather do AGT. Even so, Howard is only staying on for the money. The sheer amount of commercials in his show are blatantly obvious.
Not everyone went over to Sirius when Howard moved. There seems to be a disconnect between those whom have followed him and those whom have not. Those whom have not still think he’s as funny as ever. Those whom have followed him saw him slowly turn into something unlistenable.
If you like the commercial free music, more power to you. Unfortunately for someone like me, I prefer my ipod. Combine that with the fact that Stern is no longer funny, I have since cancelled.
Stern Hasn’t been Stern since he cheaped out and didn’t pay Jackie the 1/25th of what the show was making per station in syndication. Then he met that long faced gold digger at THE SPA, a hookup joint for the freaks of NYC back in the late 90′s early 2000′s that totally killed what was left of Sterns sense of humor.
I can only hope they fire the dead weight that Howard Stern has become!
Amen Ashley
Howard Sterns contract is keeping my man Benji from greatness!!
Howard still looks young and sexy and relevant.
As shown in that photo he tweeted last week.
Look for Liberty to award Stern with more vacation time and a reduced schedule. The current 12 hr. weekly schedule does not allow for enough wig swap outs or teeth whitening sessions.
I hope Malone fires Howard and puts on someone who will work five days a week.
“Two reasons to listen to Sirius:
1. Howard Stern
2. No commercials . . .”
You’re either an idiot or a brilliant comedian.
Howard has not been worth listening to in years and his job on AGT made it worst. The guy runs two channels and goes on vacation all the time and is always sick. I am sorry but he is currently not worth the money he is bleeding out of the company.
They should get rid of Stern’s lackluster part time show and give Opie and Anthony another channel. Those guys work every day and put a lot of effort into their show but continually get the shaft by Howard and Mel.
They also need to lower subscription prices. How do they expect to compete with Pandora and ipods when they are nickel and diming their customers? I have 2 radios and an internet subscription and I pay 3x more than I did when I signed up.
Interesting – I wonder how Sirius/XM will fare in the next few years regardless of whether Liberty’s request is approved and/or it tries to sell the business. With Pandora and other like services becoming available in new cars, it’s no longer a one horse race.
Howard Stern was the main reason a lot of people signed up for Sirius, but he’s cut back his radio schedule quite a bit in the last few years to focus on other projects like America’s Got Talent and his photography work which has been given its proper recognition recently as well.
Please fire Stern the fraud immediately if not sooner. He is clearly tired and ready to retire to greener pastures with his pet pony. He’s on so infrequently, no one would notice the difference…
You Howard Stern hater fans need to shut the heck up.
Howard has been busting his tail harder than ever this year, just to keep his name in the game.
He works from 5 to 11:30 on his radio show, then commutes to Newark to do AGT till 11 pm.
That’s an 18-hour workday.
And yet, the Howard Stern show has been better than ever.
Sure, he’s cut down on his work schedule.
But he’s more than made of for it with big-time guests like Tiffani Thiessen, Tabitha Stevens and Will D. Farter.
Lay off Howard.
He and his sexy wife have made the show better, not worse.
I had been a subscriber since July ’05 and I cancelled 2 weeks ago. If Howard’s going to be pissed off at his employers, he should take it out on them and not spend his time “pissing on his fans” by doing substandard shows, and cramming commercials in at every chance.
To quote Jay Thomas: “GET RID OF HIM!”
Many people signed up because of Stern, but after his lawsuit against Sirius was dismissed and the details of his contract were brought to light, fans saw how much he had lied to them to get them to follow him to Sirius. He went on and on about how it would be commercial free and that was a lie from the beginning. Same with his, “I’ll be taking some Fridays off.” His arrogance reached a new low when he said on his show that he “pisses on his fans.” To this day I don’t know why there isn’t a class action lawsuit against Stern for all the bait and switching he’s pulled on the subscribers of his show. Ponderous!
If you listen to the few days a month Howard actually works, there are tons of commercials.
i listen to sirius…and although i came over for howard i barely listen to him anymore. his constant complaining about his “bosses” and constant shilling of america’s got talent leaves me wishing for unconsciousness. but i solved that program….there are many other great shows on sirius.
howard has become a boring diva and most probably drove the sirius stock price down. whoever signed him to his present contract should be fired along with other management who enabled the deal.
i hope malone cleans house and gets rid of the dead wood (including the now talentless and dull howard stern).
It has nothing to do with a “comfort zone”, that’s simply ridiculous. Howard puts no effort into his part-time radio gig, there is zero creativity and no laughs anymore to be found. It’s all promotion for other shows and tired banter between boring people.
It’s not that people “Don’t get it”, it’s that there is nothing there to get.
Get rid of Stern. 100 million of stockholders’ cash goes to this waste of air time.
The five days a month he “works” are spent plugging his crap tv show.
Plus, he’s suing the company for more money.
Get rid of him……
