Coming this fall, Live! With Kelly & Michael. The former NFL star-turned-TV personality Michael Strahan was rumored to be among the finalists for the permanent co-host to Kelly Ripa post, which had been vacant since the November departure of Regis Philbin. He will now be unveiled as Ripa’s new on-screen partner when Live launches its new season on Sept. 4, as first reported by Broadcasting & Cable. Since Philbin’s exit, Strahan has served as a guest co-host on Live a whopping 15 times, most recently on July 3. He is expected to also keep his weekend gig on Fox NFL Sunday, making for a weekly cross-country trek between New York, where Live tapes and Los Angeles from where the sports broadcast originates. Following his NFL career, Strahan also dabbled in comedy with a starring role on the short-lived Fox comedy Brothers.

I’m surprised at this move as I always thought her husband would have been the new co-host for the show and yet weren’t they supposed to officially reveal this move on the 4th of September but someone let the cat out of the bag two weeks before? That will be a hell of a commute for him though from NY to LA and back.

This will be a boost for Kelly; hate to say that Kelly wasn’t
getting onto the show with all other guests appearing daily……
Strahan will surpass Regis.. Regis was good but time to move on..
and Blessings to Michael and his wife seems like a darling and
such a family man. Kelly you in luck when ABC picked Stahan. The
show will go on as they say…..
Why must certain people inject race into the mix, when the subject isn’t germane. Strahan is very likable and capable, and that is why he got the job.
REALLY… and what in his NFL career leads you to believe that he is an entertainer? Someone equally at home with a quip as well as the broadcasting background to co-host a daily chat/entertainment show??
And after he tells us the umpteenth version of the Favre “sack” story, laughs maniacally at every bleat from Kelly…… THEN WHAT???
Crickets.
Now if only someone can bridge that gap between your sense of humor and common sense.
I have officially stopped watching the show. It was bad enough having to watch a rotating co-host chair and Kelly can’t handle the show on her own.
End of story – this show belonged to Regis and I don’t foresee it lasting much past another year or two now that ABC made the wrong decision in giving the co-host spot to Strahan.

Good for him. He’s been the hardest working guy in Hollywood in terms of finding his next career. And boy is his wife hot.
I was hoping they would choose someone who is less of a moron to balance out Kelly. Oh well. More cringe-worthy morning television for The Soup to have fun with.

This doesn’t look like a winning combo to me. Ripa’s draw was the way she was bubbly and joking towards Regis’s older/straight laced ways.
I wouldnt’ say Michael is the wrong choice but this is the wrong pairing. I don’t see these too being a long-standing duo. It’s like the first season of the talk. It was fine. It was okay. It wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t working.

I was too, only so it would get him off SNL.
Thought it wouls be him with outside chance for lachey….A live fan but never liked his guest hosting & think I may have more time to sample the new shows..
Dont know if anyone one of you actually watched them on the air all 15 times like I did, but they definitely had chemistry and are a lot of fun. This show is for pepole who like to laugh and be happy. Plain and simple. Congrats Michael!
I did watch. I like Michael, he’s funny & affable, but I don’t think it will work for 5 days a week. I don’t think he balances her out, he’s like her, funny and about the same age, so he doesn’t bring anything else to the show.

as much as I thought abc made a brilliant decision with Kelly 10 years ago to balance Regis, I think this is not a good pairing. I like Michael, he’s good on the show, but “once in a while” not daily.
I liked the others, Seth, Josh, Nick, and I specially liked her with Martin Short. I think he’s brilliant, and brings some of that maturity.
Not a fan of this move.
I will say that Strahan was more entertaining than I imagined he would be in the 1 bit I saw of him, but he’s definitely better in small doses. So, I do think this pairing will tank the show a bit.
That being said, seriously, who is this guy f******????

I personally would have loved josh groban who has such a great personality and humor. But congrats to Michael!
Big mistake. Perhaps Seth Myers didnt want the role but he is, unequivocally, the best choice. Myers is both funny and smart — and the perfect foil to Ripa’s ditzy bit.
Strahan can be funny but fails at Myers’ smooth delivery.
This show has been on life support since Regis’ departure — you can call TOD as 9am Eastern, Sept 4
Could not agree more – Meyers was the only way to go – the show will die or linger to a slow death even if Stahan is a nice guy.
Are you kidding me, you call one Black male talk show host on daytime diversity? Get over yourself a**hole! It isn’t political correctness, it’s just correctness!
He’s congenial and she’s bubbly, but the truth is Ripa should have left the show when Regis did. It is, after all, HIS format. She shouldn’t have capitulated to her handlers who just keep milking money out of her. She needed to take a break and then do her own thing to become her own person. She is much more talented than people think.
