EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, NBC has bought a light drama executive produced by country star Miranda Lambert. The deal brings both halves of country music’s “it” couple to NBC, with Lambert joining her husband, The Voice co-star Blake Shelton, whose relationship with the network played a role in the project landing there. Chad Hodge is set to write the project, which is inspired by Lambert’s experience growing up and centers on a couple who run a highly successful detective agency while also trying to raise two teenagers. Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, Hodge and Lambert are executive producing with Lambert’s manager, Marion Kraft. The project was set up at ABC Family last year with a different writer.

Lambert and her younger brother grew up in Lindale, TX. Their father, Richard Lee “Rick” Lambert, a retired police officer, became a private investigator in partnership with her mother, Beverly “Bev” June Lambert, who will serve as a consultant on the TV project. WME-repped Lambert, who got her break on television as a finalist on reality series Nashville Star in 2003, went on to become a top-selling country singer. In addition to the Miranda Lambert project, Kaplan also is executive producing Gates, a comedy written by Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith based on a British format, which just landed at NBC with a pilot production commitment.
