With some of its stars off to topline their own spinoffs and start a family, ratings starting to come down to earth and cast salary demands escalating, MTV is ending its blockbuster reality show Jersey Shore. The upcoming season 6 of the series, which premieres Oct. 4, will be its last, MTV said.
MTV has lined up a slew of Jersey Shore farewell programming beginning on Sept. 6, the night of the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. The full-day celebration will kick-off at 11 AM with a Jersey Shore marathon. At 6 PM, MTV will air Gym, Tan, Look Back, a retrospective special, which will feature a sneak peak from the final season. AT 7 PM, Jersey Shore cast members will discuss the end of the show on the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show red carpet. Following Season Six premiere on October 4, the new episodes of the final episodes will be followed by Jersey Shore encore programming at 11 PM.
Jersey Shore is MTV’s highest rated series ever in history and has ranked as the #1 cable series for P12-34 for all five of its previous seasons. It aired internationally, spawned spinoff series The Pauly D Project and Snooki & JWOWW, which has been renewed for a second season, and inspired two international versions: Geordie Shore in the UK and Gandia Shore in Spain. Jersey Shore is executive produced by SallyAnn Salsano from 495 Prods. Concept created by Anthony Beltempo.

Tragic. Not.
There is a God. Hopefully they’ll kill off Snooki in the series finale.
Ha Ha LMFAO. Maybe snookie will be killed off.
This is not entirely surprising. I believe the show has ran its course and won its spot in pop culture.
Also one of the biggest stars just gave birth to a baby boy. In my opinion, I highly doubt Snooki is going to want to drink Mexican Bulldog drinks when she has a newborn at home.
You’ll be surprised.
Thankfully this train wreck is over. There is so much wrong with this show. Viacom should be run out of town. Maybe at least setup HQ in NJ or something like that.
All bad things must come to an end.
Good Riddance to cheap Rubbish.
All kidding aside, the show served an important function. Like supermarket tabloids, each episode screamed, “Well, there’s always somebody worse than I am.” Reality TV is a freak show that reinforces core values even as it violates them. Somebody oughta write a book.
I have only word to describe my feelings about it: finally.
Jersey down Honey BOO BOO to go.
is… is there any way we can convince MTV to cancel it right now? without even airing the last season?
Thank you! My prayers have been answered, millions have lost valuable brain cells during this run. Now back to making good TV
(with hands clasped together and raised towards the heavens)
“Thank you Lord for this tremendous news. I am an Atheist, but I still thank you God that this travesty of entertainment is coming to an end.”
Amazing news.
I’m taking bets on which ones will get fat after the media scrutiny and cameras are finally off them. My money’s on the big muscley one.
good get out,,,,good riddance to bad garbage!!!!!!
Next year? Should have ended a couple of years ago.
WOW. For everyone who HATES the show SOOO much, why don’t you go out there and create more compelling content? Its interesting to me that there are SO many “haters” of Jersey Shore, yet you have all seemed to watch it. As a matter of fact, millions of people weekly tune in. Stop over analyzing reality TV, relax and laugh. Please people do you REALLY think what you see on TV is how these people are in real life? Don’t be so naive. The cast isn’t hurting anyone…they are entertaining and compelling. If they weren’t then the show would have never become a huge part of Television culture. Kudos to those behind Jersey Shore! This show was a fun piece of pop culture that during a horrible time in the economy and hollywood reminded everyone not to take things so seriously. So go “beat the beat up”, cheer for “team meatballs” and take the sticks out of your behind. I loved Jersey Shore, I think its a good time to wrap up the story but I had a blast laughing at the antics of this cast.
I love Jersey Shore. Sad to see it go, but now seems like a good time, the 5th season was lacking drama.
