NBC has given a put pilot commitment to The High Life, a single-camera comedy from the brother-and-sister writing duo Will Reiser (50/50) and comedian Robin Reiser. The project, from 20th Century Fox TV, is about the trials and tribulations of a misguided young woman, who’s newly sober and trying to navigate motherhood, work and marriage – all of which makes her want to drink. The Reisers are executive producing with JJ Philbin, Jake Kasdan and Thruline’s Willie Mercer, with Melvin Mar producing. Most of the auspices on the project have strong Hollywood lineage. Will and Robin Reiser are cousins to comedian Paul Reiser, Philbin is the daughter of Regis Philbin, while Kasdan’s father is writer-director Lawrence Kasdan.
This is the second comedy project at NBC this development season that is being written by siblings. Saturday Night Live‘s Seth Meyers and his younger brother, Josh Meyers (Mad TV), are co-writing a multi-camera sitcom about brothers, which is executive produced by SNL honcho Lorne Michaels.
Reiser, who wrote the screenplay for 50/50 loosely based on his own life, is currently penning an animated feature for DreamWorks. Philbin is a Writer/Consulting Producer on New Girl, while Kasdan, who helmed the pilot for the Fox comedy, serves as an Executive Producer/Director. Will and Robin Reiser are repped by by UTA, Thruline and attorney James Feldman, Philbin is with UTA and 3 Arts, Kasdan and Mar with WME.

Also, I believe Melvin Mar is the older brother of Bruno Mars. Melvin dropped the “s” because it’s “cooler”.
No doubt after the failure of “Mars Needs Moms”.
I fell asleep on “trial and tribulations”…zzzz
Recovering addict trying to acclimate to sobriety sounds hilarious. Especially when she has kids. Is it a half-hour dramedy?
Good for will. He’s a nice guy and a great writer.
Every premise sounds exactly the same always.
Except the one you’ve got locked and loaded, right?
boink: I’m not a TV writer. I make a fine living in features and feel no need to join the TV writers in the gutter.
A real live movie writer? Well… Thank you for taking the time to step out of your snazzy ivory castle to wallow down here amongst the rabble to offer up your high minded thoughts.
Go On about dead wife and New Normal about difficulties facing a gay family. NBC must want dramatic comedies.
