EXCLUSIVE: Nick at Nite is going 2-for-2 with its original pilots. I’ve learned that the Nickelodeon nighttime channel has picked up comedy pilot Wendell And Vinnie starring Jerry Trainor to series. Nick at Nite has ordered 20 episodes from the project, written by comedy veteran Jay Kogen (Frasier) and executive produced by Aaron Kaplan (Terra Nova). Wendell And Vinnie is Nick at Nite’s second comedy pilot. The first, the Scott Baio-starring Daddy’s Home, received a 20-episode order back in March.
In Wendell and Vinnie, iCarly co-star Trainor plays Vinnie, a lovable, goofball uncle who becomes the guardian to his buttoned-up 12-year-old nephew Wendell (Buddy Handleson, Shake It Up). Nicole Sullivan co-stars as Vinnie’s high-strung older sister Wilma. It has been a busy week for Kaplan who has landed a series pickup, Wendell And Vinnie, and two pilot orders, Instant Mom at Nick at Nite and HR at Lifetime, in the past four days. This marks the sixth series order for Kaplan’s three-year-old Kapital Entertainment. Trainor is with ICM Partners.

Was this cancelled??? I really hope not. Nicole Sullivan and Jerry Trainor are amazing together! The kid who plays Wendell isn’t a phenomenal actor or anything, but he still really works as his character and is perfect for the role.
The neighbor is absolutely useless though. My husband and I both think that her parts always feel forced, like they tried at the last minute to find a way to incorporate her into each episode.
