Here’s an image from Twitter of President Obama’s tweeted response to Clint Eastwood’s speech at the Republican National Convention. During his speech Eastwood carried on a mock dialogue with an empty chair that represented the Democratic incumbent.

I LOVE HIM!
Gotta hand it to him – he’s got game. Way to volley that one right back to the Republicans.
LOL, Obama’s tweet only serves to show he has thin skin and low self-esteem. Besides that, it wasn’t even funny or clever in any way.
Sorry, who has thin skin and low self-esteem?
Not for long.
yeah, only 5 more years
THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE!!!!
Why? Are the Republicans planning to run someone other than Romney? Because polls show, nobody likes him.
We’ll see about that.
so…no one will sit in that chair?
Don’t be too sure.
Well, for another four years, anyway…
You’re right. In the grand scheme of things, another four years isn’t that long at all.
took the words out of my mouth, Jake
The very fact that a President of the United States “tweets” is a story in itself— BUT, the fact that a President of the United States was moved to take the time and trouble to respond to an actor performing the role of unhinged uncle who none the less speaks eternal truths and finally pops the bubble of the mind numbing mediocrity previously untouchable, speaks to the success of “Crazy” Clint and his surreally absurdist take on “The One”.
Like any one of us, when you can’t do the job you gotta go.
Like any one of us, when you are a drag on the business— A.M.F!!!
So, you REALLY believe Obama himself is the one taking the time to actually send out tweets, and not some intern or assistant in the campaign or White House? Shoot, it was probably Axelrod.
Get a grip, man.
Hey genius,
That was clearly a staffer. Turns out lots of people can tweet from his account. That’s what politicians do.
Secondly, you’re completely out of touch if you think it’s wrong for a president to use a informational tool to get his message out. Shockingly out of touch, I’d say.
A) Pretty sure the President doesn’t actually do his own tweeting. His Twitter is run by his campaign staff. I don’t believe Obama himself took the time to reply via Twitter in this particular situation.
B) Mitt Romney has a Twitter too. His bio doesn’t say it’s run by anyone but him, but I imagine he also does not do his own tweeting.
C) Most politicians these days have Twitter accounts, liberal and conservative and independent and moderate and what have you. Some do their own tweeting. Many who do sound ridiculous. This was actually a pretty badass tweet.
So, you know, whatever.
Agreed. I thought Obama wasn’t watching the election?
To quell any confusion with the eternally confused out there: yes, President Obama does indeed have a twitter account and, yes, someone on his staff updates said account. And, yes, he has better things to do. Gee, I wonder if he sends me all those emails himself, too…
You and Jake will be sorely mistaken come November, fortunately.
RNC was down because most Obama-haters have made their decision. The know listening to Romney will only make them second guess their decision- Romney should be glad they watched football instead. Hating Obama is enough.
Ridiculous, immature, asinine speech by Eastwood but I’m disappointed that Obama responded to it thru TWITTER. Unfortunately, his comeback didn’t work because Jake (above) is right… Obama could be out of that chair in a few months.
Eastwood’s speech was awkward and solely focused on simply bashing Obama. The audiences reaction to his “chair skit” said it all- only 1/2 laughed, the rest seemed almost angry (maybe because “republican” Eastwood is pro choice, pro gay marriage, etc?).
Romney will take care of our families and get us jobs. How? Guess his advisors don’t know…
you and jake like the way your words taste..hence , “took the words right out of my mouth”….swallow your words back..cheap talk don’t count..that seat’s taken again!!!
After tonight’s embarrassing series of speeches — Romney’s made Eastwood’s look suave and coherent — I believe this seat will be comfortably filled by its current occupant for another four years.
What could possibly be going on in that head of yours?? Is that all you care about? How “suave” your president comes across? Typical. Dig a little deeper and get to the content.
Dear lord. That was sad.
Apparently, the only thing worse off than the economy is Clint Eastwood’s mind. The speech was a total disaster.
The tweet response was brilliant however.
Clint- just stick to acting or planning retirement
Thanks for keeping it warm for me.
That one response is smart, calm and instantly dismissive- three things the RNC cannot began to manage to do.
if romney wins its the end for america.
It wasn’t Presidential of him AT ALL to respond. The comment did get under his skin.
The Dems have got some time before the convention. A curt, straight-forward reply was perfect.
And it made Clint look small and unimportant compared to the Commander in Chief at work.
A good comeback.
Stonewall Congress like a broken record regardless of what was on the table, in the midst of the greatest economic turmoil since the Great Depression, then blame the President for being ineffectual. Sad. Every American has suffered as a result of such politicking. There was room for common ground.
Of course Jake; he does have to stand up to be sworn in.
Jake, you got it very wrong. President Obama still leads in 6 of the 9 latest national polls, is tied in the 7th, and is within the margin in the other 2.
President Obama will be re-elected, thank God!
And the Republicans are such phonies. They condemn support from “celebrities” until they’re the ones soliciting support from the likes of Clint Eastwood. Hypocrites!
You guys do not seem to think 4 more years is a long time. If you loved him the first 4 you will really love him the next 4! Likewise if you…….arrr… you smart boys get it. Right?
That is an awesome and classy response to a strange and creepy speech.
Keep living in that dream if you think that Mittens is going to win. He keeps pushing away more people every day. You can always rally your base but to steal from the other side requires a talent he does not have. Obama will win. Now go back to your coco puffs and cartoons.
Thought he was not watching? Hate to say it, but I would have rathered Hillary.
Great picture! And I love the displaced joy, premature gloating and hubris! That ALWAYS wins over the crowd!
Eastwood on that stage was elder abuse, the RNC should be ashamed. Face it folks, Romney is behind and this little mystery guest stunt backfired and turned an American icon into a Twitter punchline.
Actually the people who should be ashamed are the ones who think 140 Twitter characters actually matter.
Cant wait to see Obama at the DNC respond to a week of complete Lies! Romney Ryan: Bought, sold and sold out the American people. Clint sucked and it was sad seeing him used like he was and then to see the disloyal dogs in the Romney Kennel Immediately turn on him when they immediately saw how awful he was.
four more years of Obama. yes
That (prop) speech played great on the radio!
I thought BHO wasnt watching the convention?
don’t worry about the old folks Prez, you’ll be in that chair another 4 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We’re going to ask you to share in the sacrifice, Mr. President, so we can spread the seats around a little more.
Yeah Jake, only 4 more years.
You’re so right, Jake. Four years really isn’t a long time when you think about it.
