OWN co-presidents Sheri Salata and Erik Logan continued to put a positive spin on the embattled network’s forecast, appearing this afternoon at TCA to echo comments a few days ago by Discovery Networks CEO David Zaslav. “Sheri and I are very encouraged by what’s happened and what we’ve established over the past year,” Logan said. “We’ve established ourselves with original programming on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.” He boasted that Oprah Winfrey Network has had three successive quarters of year-over-year growth, “and we’re up double digits in primetime and total day overt last year.” Logan further noted that OWN has experienced 28 consecutive weeks of ratings growth. Of course, the network’s numbers had been so skimpy they really had nowhere to go but up.

And the band played on…
Then they can join Zaslav on the unemployment line with that kind of thinking, as they’re trying to make a silk’s purse out of sow’s ears for a lack of a better analogy. Seriously folks…who are these people kidding? Ratings have been and always will be in the crapper with OWN and with Queen Oprah having to beg for viewers via Twitter is just another indication this network should have the plug pulled by the year’s end and cut out this fantasy talk.
the own story has been a sad one.
I remain positive as well… positive OWN is circling the drain.
Does anyone else find it strange that Oprah is off making the movie “The Butler” right now. Not sure what character she is playing, but with her network tanking shouldn’t she be doing a show for OWN instead of a vanity project movie? Seems pretty indulgent of her to take her eye off OWN like this.
Maybe OWN should hire Jeff Zucker and just get it over with.
This would be tragic if it wasn’t so hilarious.
On any sinking ship there are those few idiots who insist on going down with it.
