With a revamped judging panel and on a new night, the premiere of America’s Next Top Model: College Edition drew 1.26 million viewers and a 0.6/1 in adults 18-49 last night. In adults 18-49, Top Model matched the debut of its most recent midseason cycle. It was up by a fraction in total viewers (1.26 million vs. 1.17 million) and down a tenth in 18-34. Given the series’ late August launch on the lower-trafficked Friday night, the numbers are not that bad but they dash hopes for a major rebound of the reality veteran whose last season premiere dove 45% year-to-year for the franchise’s lowest-rated opener. CBS is projected to win Friday with an NFL exhibition game.TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Top Model had a good run. But now, since there’s no such thing as a “top model” anymore, the show is not as interesting. Actresses and reality stars have taken the place of admiration that models used to occupy.
This season is not nearly as interesting as previous seasons, and I am disappointed with the changes in judging. No one likes Kelley Catrone (spelling?). Sure she creates drama, but she is unrealistically mean. Why would you get rid of Nigel and the Jays? Everyone loves them. This season is just not the same. I don’t even remember to watch it anymore so I’ll watch it online and I fall asleep everytime! And the judging system? I thought when it was first introduced it was going to be like American Idol where we call in and vote after each episode. How does anyone know the model’s personalities or anything to vote before they have even seen the episode or have gotten to know the models? To sum it all up: This season is lame.
Gotta say … I agree completely with Heidi H. Last season was bad … this season even worse. It’s just not the same without Jay, Jay and Nigel. I don’t watch it either anymore … don’t like the judges, especially the riduculous blogger. A shame … I used to really like this show.
Not that it would have much of an impact, but the local CW station (WPIX 11) in the NYC metro area is currently being blacked out by Cablevision as they fight over broadcast fees.
Awesome! The CW’s target audience of young women have finally gotten sick of Tyra Banks terrorizing an endless parade of members of the target audience with eating disorders! Should have happened sooner, but I’ll take it as an example of the newest additions to the network’s target demos being *much* smarter than the show’s original viewers, who have aged out of it.
The revamping was an over-reaction. Last’s ratings were bad because he theme was so lame. America vs the Brits would have played well in the 1800′s but seriously who cares? Dumping Andre Leon Tally last year was a great idea, but replacing him with the even less appealing. grotesque Kelly Cultrone was another big misstep. Tyra should have gotten another ex-model to replace Cultrone & kept the 2 Jays & Nigel Barker. Right now this thing is only fun to watch because it’s fun seeing Tyra go up in flames due to her massive ego…
Time for Top Model to say goodbye.
The revamping of the program is hurting the launch of it and including college teens and now airing on Friday nights, which is the least-watched night for TV, let alone the CW, are indications that maybe this edition needs to be the final one as it had a successful run, at least to their standards, but it’s time to go into a new and fresher direction with the CW and that includes ending the airing of reality shows.
My fiancee finally gave up on it. She has literally watched every season thus far but has been mostly infuriated by Tyra for the past few years but kept kind of slogging along. After the culling of so many of her favorites, she decided to cancel the season pass and that’s that.
Can’t say I’m disappointed!
The box office boards have been taken over by mouth breathing conspiracy theorists, so I’m wondering where we can discuss this week’s box office. Interested to hear thoughts on why Premium Rush tanked.
Im in CWs target audience(im 31)& still love this show.Personally I feel cycle 18 British Invasion &cycle 19 college edition are the best. Zeke, no networks are gonna stop making reality shows_theyre cheap to make & usually have good ratings. Also Top Model is still doing well ratings wise (its doing much better than repeats,La Complex,The Next,Oh Sit,Catalina,Breaking Pointe)& is doing standard ratings for CW for a original episode & rating as it did last spring plus its popular worldwide so there haters …….Yes its ratings are lower the past couple cycles, but that happens as shows age.
Also, Top Model is CWs most sucsessful &only sucsessful reality and was/is one of thier highest rated shows and its syndicated on Oxygen and Style and how many of many of your shows have lasted 19 seasons? Not many. So stop hating on and bashing the show.”If you dont have anything nice to say, say nothing”.
The first 10-12 cycles were great but slowly the series just aged out and the bigger and crazier Tyra’s season premiere opening sketches were, the worst the season became. After skipping last season completely I watched on Friday night. Tyra is still high energy and commands every scene she’s in but I gotta say as a long time viewer, I actually miss Nigel and the two Jay’s … they felt like they were part of a group who wanted the girls to succeed … the new judges and the new creative director on fashion shoots really turned me off, it’s become a very distant top model that lacks any chemistry between the judges on the show. No one seemed to be having any fun except Tyra and that’s what I miss about our old judges. Kelly Cutrone in her baggy black and smoked tired skin needs to get the boot from Tyra, she looks like a sad frumpy jr high boy going through an awkward stage. CW I think it’s time to think of a new show for Tyra to do!
This show is a second class citizen.
I still love the show. Hopes and dreams never get old. I want 19 more ANTM!
Love that poster. Give the marketing department an A+
The show gets a C-.
This “revamped” version is terrible. The set and sorority house look like they came right out of Barbie’s dream house. It’s dreadful. The blog expert is pointless and the scoring system is just plain stupid. I can see why Cover Girl and Vogue are no part of it. I agree with previous posters comments on how it seems the more crazy & dramatic Tyra gets doing her little skits on the show, the worse the show gets. Tyra, you don’t need to ham it up, just be yourself, like you tell all the models on your show and relax. These music videos you have them do (Top Model spelled backwards) is just silly. I miss the Jays and Nigel and pray that they come back after this season. I tried watching two episodes, but I can’t take it anymore. I’m done.
Give it up please!! As dedicated as I have been to the show, I can’t stand it another night. It’s not even believable without Mr and Ms. J and Nigel. Why does Tyra feel the need to exploit these poor girls by parading them naked before a male audience of crew members then have male models pawing all over them with his mouth at her crotch and her mouth at his and ask them to smile seductively? Hats off to the Harvard student who wouldn’t do it. Sad commentary on today’s times.
I’m disappointed because I’ve caught a couple of suspicious #editorfails that lead me to believe the social network scores are predetermined and the model’s comments during judging are rehearsed. First, I watched the first three episodes online, one after the other. I watched 2 and they showed the winning social media score as usual at the end. At the beginning of the next episode, they replayed that clip and the numbers were different.
2nd, rehearsed comments: In the last episode “girl who freaked on on a horse”, during judging, Kiara was responding to that annoying Social Media tally character. The camera panned to Laura, who just happened to be lipping the exact words that Kiara was saying.
Poor editing, Poor new format – and whoever that clown freak is who shows up on the Tyra Mail videos or worse, on set sometimes, is a poor replacement for the Jays. I miss them and Social Media input has no business on this show. I may not watch anymore after this season and I’ve been watching since season one.
when i first heard that nigel, and the 2 jays were let go i said that i would no longer watch this show, and i meant it. i miss watching it. have watched it since day 1. i loved those guys, and the show would not be the same without them. bring them back, and i will come back.
I personally have become bored. Tyra’s old and worn out. Her catch phrases and one liners are all used up. I LOVED BOTH J’s. The biggest screw up was Nigel Barker. Not only did he have the passion, he brought about the eye candy. He had great advice and tips for the models. I would tune in just for some Nigel and that accent. Obviously, I now watch the face.
