Sony Pictures’ White House Down has added Jason Clarke to its cast. The actor will play Stenz, the leader of the mercenaries who break into the Executive Mansion in the Roland Emmerich-directed thriller. Maggie Gyllenhaal stars in White House Down, as does Channing Tatum. The Magic Mike star plays the Secret Service agent who tries to stop the mercenaries’ takeover. Jamie Foxx plays the President. Sony bought the James Vanderbilt spec script for $3 million earlier this year. Bradley Fischer, Vanderbilt, Laeta Kalogridis, Emmerich, Larry Franco and Harald Kloser produce White House Down. Ute Emmerich and Reid Carolin are executive producing. The film begins production later this month in Montreal. Clarke has a busy fall. He’s part of the ensemble of Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming film on the hunt for Bin Laden by Navy SEAL Team 6. He stars with Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy in the John Hillcoat-directed Lawless, and finishes the year with the Baz Luhrmann-directed The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio. Clarke is repped by UTA, Robert Stein Management and attorney Peter Nelson.
Deadline's Dominic Patten - tip him here.

do either of these 2 terrorists take over the white house movies
have release dates?
anyone??
Does anyone care? How two companies can be racing to spend tens of millions of dollars on the same uninspired idea is an indictment of the state of the business.
If you read the script, you’d know why there’s a lot of heat for the project. It’s pretty exciting. I haven’t read OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN so I don’t know what kind of competition its up against.
OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN(??)
Sounds like an old tv episode of 24.
Tired of people complaining on the internet. I am a huge Die Hard fan, and considering the last 2 had no proper Die Hard atmosphere or feel I am excited. Let’s hope they can provide some entertainment. I am excited. Let’s get behind both films and hope they can provide some enjoyment and escapism. Do Hollywood movies always need to be original? Maybe it’s time we relaxed and enjoyed movies for what they are.
Well said Greg. Not all movies have to have a message or reveil hidden secrets of the universe. I’m glad for fun movies that give me a couple hours of escapism.
It’s Air Force One! In a building!!!
In a way White House Down reminds me of Vince Flynn’s “Transfer of Power” which is a great book. I hope that they eventually do make a Mitch Rapp movie.
I am looking forward to WHD, sounds interesting and I love action movies. I could also not careless about Bigelow’s Killing Bin Laden movie. Hurtlocker was horrible and I think she is a horrible director who never should have won an oscar.
