EXCLUSIVE: Spike TV has renewed two of its highest-rated non-scripted series. The network has picked up a 26-episode fourth season of Auction Hunters, which follows prospectors Allen Haff and Ton Jones in their quest to win auctions, dig for abandoned historical treasure and sell them for a profit. The network also has ordered 13 episodes of American Digger, starring the American Savage team, led by former professional wrestler-turned-modern-day relic hunter Ric Savage. Auction Hunters and American Digger, which aired together on Wednesday night and are both produced by Gurney Prods., will go into production on their new seasons this fall for a 2013 premiere.
The recently completed season three of Auction Hunters, which included a live season premiere, averaged 1.9 million viewers and improved the Wednesday 9 PM timeslot with Men 18-49 by +102% and Men 35-49 by +121%. The debut season of American Digger delivered 1.2 million viewers and improved the Wednesday 10 PM timeslot with Men 35-49 by +36% and +11% with Men 18-49. “We are thrilled to bring back new episodes of two of our most popular shows that speak to the network’s mission of delivering bold, non-scripted entertainment with real stakes”, said Spike TV’s EVP Sharon Levy. Auction Hunters and American Digger are executive produced by Scott Gurney and Deirdre Gurney.

Dear Dave Hester, I have to say that when it comes to BS you are truely the expert.
And they wonder why people are cutting the cord and dropping cable. I have to laff at all the ‘experts’ and there antidotal mainstream talking points of how tech, and the ‘free’ multi screen options are taking subscribers away from cable. I guess they have to support the consultant fees and white papers they produce. Here is my free view, and any of U cable execs are free to use it. Cable is too damn expensive especially when its filled with crap like this. What U 1% non-creative execs need to do is look at ur crappy programs and decide if it wasn’t free would someone pay 1.99, .99 to watch that program and if the answer is “no” then you best come up with better crap. Because at some point one of ur competitors is going ala-cart. And crap like this will be left floating in the bowl where it belongs.
All of those viewership numbers are patently untrue. Auction Hunters only averaged between 1.5-1.4 million viewers per episode and American Diggers averaged just under 1 million viewers. In fact, not a single Spike TV program has hit 1.9 viewers for one episode, let alone averaged that many viewers throughout the television season.
I feel dumber knowing these shows exist.

This is actually one of the best of the so-called reality shows on tv. And obviously, you didn’t see the disclaimer at the beginning that says they just show the best of their finds out of hundreds of storage lockers that they buy. It would be pretty boring if they showed the ones where they found nothing!
The show was entertaining. I look forward to season 2. (and three,etc.)I can’t get a handle on some artifists deciding it’s better for important artifacts to rot in the ground than be recovered and displayed for public view. I suppose it could dampen the efforts of some historians to twist and reshape the history of America’s past. Keep diggin’ Rick! lar
Do you really think that anything they show being recovered actually came out of the ground during the filming? All that stuff was either borrowed or bought from real collectors. American Digger is nothing but VERY poor acting and even poorer depictions of what is a very rewarding hobby. And I don’t mean financially rewarding either.

Do you ever read the opening or ending comments to the two shows… first it says ton and Allen search hundreds of lockers these are just their greatest finds…. lastly it says how long they dig and everything else…. look at the ground where they dig its undisturbed and if ur to dumb to see that don’t watch the show
Well first of all i am glad they resigned both of these shows. Even if they are so call ” For Show” show, it does bring attention to each of there respected trades. They both could use a little more “Balance” to them because not every time they enter a storage locker or dig in every place do they ultimately find something “All the time”. It would show a little more “Being human” to each show. It would also give a little more credit when they do find the relic or valued object. But i say, bring them on.. was watching your show and really do not think it is a joke, all i think about is the good that can happen for me especially, and perhaps may good things for you too. I live with my family in New Rochelle, NY and would love to see if possible for a visit, i am for sure this property will make it your while. Lots of long sad stories about the land that we live next to and history, we foudn horseshoes when se had moved in 18 years ago. I am blown away by the talent that you have, because honesly i have tried to dig and find , waaay too much for me to handle. I like that the show is stirring a new interest in our history and if ric is interested i have a property that is loaded with a lot of myths and legends that i as well as people in the community would love for him to come and explore

Why are yall are hatin? Jeez. So what they may be scripted, its part of t.v. If you dont like it, then DONT watch it. Complaining does nothing to help. And maybe they always find something because they do months of research and spend tons of money on getting the right tools and areas, therefore they want to make sure they’re in the right area.
Sad to see how Spike is plummeting down the slope of bad TV. Spike was a fun channel, but they’re losing credibility showing fake, staged shows such as these two. “Hey everybody! These guys are fakes!”

First off why does Savage have to YELL every word?? who would let their wife dress and look like that on TV?.. I think Rick thinks he was a bigger more famous wrestler than he was. And that people would enjoy his “Boom baby!” bs, and over the top, and over dramatic personality. It’s just plain annoying. As annoying and as fake as wrestling. So it fits. Why couldn’t he just do a straight forward show, instead of adding fake crap, and BEYOND obvious actors/acting of the property owners he tries to convince to let him dig on their property. The way these home/property owners act is so intelligence insulting. As bad as lizard lick towing. These dam shows need to learn that the audience would rather be bored with the truth in tv shows, than insulted with obvious fake finds and people. Please cancel this clown.
my son and i watch the diggers every week we just love it i just that it stayed on sat. nights so my son can stay up the rest of the week he’s in bed for school. glade to see its coming back
