You’ll get to see him this weekend in The Expendables 2 but Lionsgate has put up a trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand, South Korean director Kim Jee-woon’s first English-language movie. Previously described as “a Fast And Furious at the border with high speed car chases, drug cartels and the like“, it’s slated to open January 18, 2013:

Looks solid enough but what a blunder to add Johnny Knoxville to the cast…
Knoxville is actually a decent actor IMO, better than most to come into acting from a different background that made him famous to begin with. Plus opinions are like As#holes, everyone has one.
Are u insane? Arnold just looks old and tired in an old and tired movie… And he can’t act… Besides, his Austrian accent in a modern-day western is simply out of place… Nonsense.
It’s the director of I Saw the Devil, which is fucking great, so add that plus ARNOLD and you probably have the best movie about an old sheriff fighting a drug cartel in his town with Johnny Knoxville ever made.
The Good, the Bad, the Weird was pretty cool, and this trailer looks sweet. Seems Arnie has made good choices for who to work with as he adjusts back into making movies. You definitely notice the difference in his age, even just since T3.
Is Johnny Knoxville seriously playing the EXACT same character as Walking Tall? I mean those movies are close enough in premise, why on earth would you cast him there??
I just saw a test screening of this. It’s a thrill to see Arnold as the main star again, and he’s great with what he’s given, but everything else is straight to video, cheap looking garbage. Massively disappointing. There’s no craft to the direction, the script is bland with by the numbers action dialogue. But there are some applaud worthy kills at the end. Even so, that doesn’t make up for the rest of the movie. Arnold is an icon and he deserves better than this.
Arnold does not deserve better. This looks perfect for an actor who cannot act.
This isn’t another older actor like Tommy Lee Jones in “No Country for Old Men”.
It’s just Arnold.
Enjoy it fans.
Call me crazy, but if there were a group of heavily armed cartel members that killed a bunch of cops, and were headed toward the border, wouldn’t some FEDERAL AGENCY (or National Guard) with a helicopter have shot them to pieces, before they reached Arnold? I mean, they kill the cops at night, and are headed towards Arnold during the middle of the day. One would think the state/federal govt had AT LEAST a few hours to scramble an attack chopper OR a Sheriff’s helicopter with SWAT snipers on board, no?
Looks like a hole big enough to drive a group of Mexican cartel members through…
I wish the public demanded more of their movies.
I guess you’re just going to have to go and watch the movie to find out what happens. I’m intrigued now too.
If you want realism, watch documentaries.
It’s getting harder and harder to get excited by movies that aren’t trying very hard to excite us anymore. If explosions and one liners and retired action stars are what it takes then why is there a very clear distinction between good films like Die Hard and terrible films like Expendables.
Not only that but, where exactly are the bag guys headed? Are they driving INTO the United States? What for? They looking to buy some In & Out Burgers or something? If they were coming in to do some drug deals, wouldn’t they want to NOT call attention to themselves? Travelling with a heavily armed convoy and blowing up a roadblock doesn’t seem like a way to be stealthy.
No. The national guard would not get involved. Its called Posse Comitatus. Also if this happened suddenly, with no warning the Fed gov would not have time to react. Perhaps some CBP guys could respond, but it takes bare minimum of a few hours to get a federal tactical team together and deployed. So yes likely it would initially be a combo of CHP, County and locals responding, but after maybe 6 hours FBI HRT would be out there…
Looks like Arnold watched some Clint Eastwood films lately — esp. that last shot of him pumping and firing the shotgun…pure Clint grimace.
Holy hell, that looks awful. Just terrible. Wow. This may be the worst looking movie that Johnny Knoxville has ever been in – think about that!!
Arnold is back! Pumped to see him back on the big screen doing what he does best.
AWESOME! Love this cast, and interested to see how Knoxville and Schwarzenneger will be together. High hopes for this one
Arnold is baaaaaaaaaaaaaack; looks dope
“I’LL BE BACKK!!!” he’s back and still badass. this is the kind of action movie that’s been missing from Hollywood lately. looks like a good mix of fun and awesomeness.
Jee-woon Kim is an excellent director, but somehow I don’t see this movie taking advantage of his skills. I wonder how his English is, there’s a pretty common trend of non-english speaking directors putting out english movies with stilted acting, no real surprise there.
Hoping for the best, trailer looks fun, Arnie is back and there’s a very capable director behind it.
This trailer looks SICK! So great to see Arnold back as the star, and the action looks wild. Can’t wait to see this one (definitely in the theater)!!
This looks AMAZING. I can’t wait to see Arnold back on screen and kicking ass!
Looks like a blast, excited to see in theaters! I’m a big fan of the actors and director so I think this will be awesome.
Why do Lionsgate movies always look like straight to dvd shit? American Psycho excluded…
Looks terrible.
I’m in!
HE’S BACK! Lookin’ good Arnie!!!!
Looks like Lionsgate’s intern department are hard at work making obvious positive comments, again.
Arnold is sure aging well! Plus I’m a big fan of Luis Guzman. This will be a great date night flick for me and my husband. Keep up the good work, Lionsgate.
B movie Arnold is back! And it looks like he’s going direct to DVD!
what does it say about today’s action movies that when I saw this trailer my first reaction was “finally, a return to quality”
Jee-woon Kim is an amazing director- a national treasure in South Korea. If the writing doesnt fuck this up (and it looks like it may) this might be awesome.
I don’t know what people who don’t dig it are talking about. The action looks badass, the supporting cast looks fun (taking itself too seriously, now THAT would’ve been mistake and people would probably be bitching about THAT in these boards) … and Arnold is working with a real director. Kim Jee-Woon will be this generation’s John Woo (Broken Arrow/Face-off John Woo, not Windtalkers/Paychek John Woo). I’m in opening weekend. This looked SHOCKINGLY fun.
