To honor the life and work of filmmaker Tony Scott, the Scott family has created The Tony Scott Scholarship Fund at AFI to celebrate his creative legacy. The family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the fund to help encourage and engage future generations of filmmakers.
AFI is a non-profit educational and cultural organization whose key aims are to preserve the history of the motion picture, honor artists and their work and to educate the next generation of storytellers. AFI provides leadership in film, television and digital media and is dedicated to initiatives that engage the past, the present and the future of the moving image arts.

To Tony’s family…what a lovely and perfect thing to do.
Again, and always…my deepest sympathies.
Tony Scott should be given a posthumous lifetime achievement Oscar at next year’s ceremony, to be accepted by Ridley. There won’t be a dry eye in the house.
Couldn’t agree more.
A very nice thing to do but the worst place to do it. AFI is a racket and the scholarship should be an entity of it’s own and not given to those people.
jealous, are we?
Why is a memorial scholarship commemorating a British director in the hands of the American Film Institute? That’s what I’d like to know. A great idea but why not an open scholarship or a UK film school? Unless it’s going to be for British students studying at AFI.
I was fortunate to have small roles in 3 of Tony’s films, and he was always so encouraging to me on ‘honing my craft’- I have now completed 2yrs, and 9 projects as an actor at AFI. rounding it off with a starring, and co-starring roles in 2 AFI thesis/Graduating class of 2012. Thank you Tony and AFI for being there, and your encouragement.. To our future in films! http://www.sagaftra.org/iactor/michaelandolini
