BREAKING: The Weinstein Company is tying up a deal for world rights to The Ends Of The Earth, an Escape Artists-produced package that has Jennifer Lawrence in talks to star. Aside from The Hunger Games success, she recently completed Silver Linings Playbook for TWC. Pic is a fact-based love story about a powerful oil tycoon Ernest Marland, who has everything stripped from him after he is caught in an affair with Lydie, his adopted daughter. The screenplay was written by Argo’s Chris Terrio, and no director has yet been set.
Harvey Weinstein, COO David Glasser and President of Production Dylan Sellers are in the middle of this, and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and Lance Johnson are producing.

I disagree. I find her and Emma Stone to be very refreshing and they both seem to have a lot of potential. Please name another 21 year old actress who is as good as her right now.

My thoughts exactly. SR, is quite brilliant. Her ability to use accents (ala Streep) is amazing for an eighteen year old.
I’ll look forward to watching her one day accept an Academy Award or several for her undisputable acting chops.

Since this sounds like another ho-hum prurient look at an unsavory father-(adopted)daughter relationship, maybe at least the title will cause people to find “To the Ends of the Earth” instead, a mini-series that is a far more worthy way to spend one’s time AND boasts a stellar cast.
Jennifer is awesome but that logline is awful. Who is going to see that movie? Oy!
One of the better scripts that has been floating around. Really moving and unique story. Exquisitely written.

I agree with Bart. This sounds like a Cocaine Weekend Script. Why would anyone want to go to a movie about some old man being punished for “nailing his adopted daughter.” Does this mean that Jennifer is now running with the “in” crowd? I would hope not.
Sounds like the only person who could actually make a movie about this would be Woody Allen and he would turn it into a comedy.
I love films based on true stories and this one sounds very intriguing!. Jennifer Lawrence is an incredible talent. Looking forward to this one.
That sounds better than Lie down in the darkness. With Weinstein + great script + great producers + Ms. Lawrence + add a good director and a good actor = easy oscar bait !

Seriously though, I did enjoy the script, but the writer took some liberties with the FACTS. Lydie was NOT adopted when she was 5. She was adopted when she was 16. The age difference between Lydie and Edward was 26 years. I can’t possibly know their relationship so I’m not one to judge it, but I am sure the men will love it! It plays right into many males fantasies. Pairing the young hot Jennifer with some actor in his 40′s will give them all “woodys”.

He does have sex with his daughter and marries her too! It’s like Woody Allen meets There Will Be Blood. The execution will really depend on the director, could be great or could be cheesy. I just hope they cut the scene at the end where the townspeople stand up and clap, so bad. (not a spoiler, I promise).
Im from Ponca City, OK where this actually took place…Lydie was adopted by EW, yes, but wasn’t raised by him at all…he was a very busy man and was hardly ever around until his first wife died. After he and Lydie fell in love the adoption was annulled and they had no relation, blood or otherwise, to make marriage unsavory, only their age differences! People or so judgemental
Thank you Folly for posting this! I too am from Ponca and from all articles I have seen describing the story it is being portrayed wrong!! It angers me the way they are changing the story and what they may be claiming as truth!! EW Marland did not lose his company because of Lydie!
I live 40 miles south of where the Gentleman and Stateman made his bones and this just an incredicle story. E.W. Marland is one of the greatest Oklahomans to ever live and still to this day you can link major oil and gas operations back to him. Im an oil and gas landman solely because the impact he made on me. I just hope this Stiens co. doesnt come to my beloved Oklahoma and make a mocquery out of the personal life of an American icon.

I know the story of e.w. Marland and lydie, it’s not gross it’s a true love story.
Im from PC Ok where this all took place and it is a little disturbing, but what people don’t think about is that she wasn’t actually related to him an even as his adopted daughter he wasn’t around her often until his first wife died and the adoption was annulled.
