There’s still no jury for AMC Networks’ $2.5B breach of contract suit against Dish Network — and the New York State Supreme Court won’t reconvene until Thursday. The jury was supposed to have been picked last week, but the process “is still ongoing,” reports Barclays Equity Research’s Anthony DiClemente. He says opening arguments could come Thursday “at the earliest.” The delays seem to hurt AMC more than Dish: The satellite company dropped AMC’s channels in June, and it’s hard to imagine Dish returning them to its 14.1M subscribers without a deal. DiClemente says that the trial now could run to late October which poses “some risk” to his Q4 earnings estimates for AMC, although he says it doesn’t change his forecast that the network owner will win “either a favorable settlement or judgment” in its favor. The trial will determine whether Dish had the right in 2008 to terminate its 15-year deal to air the Voom Networks suite of HD channels. The defunct channels, formerly owned by Cablevision, were packaged with AMC when the cable company spun off the network operation this year.

I can’t believe that a $70 million/year transmission deal is that much of a big deal to AMC. All the Roku’s and $35 credits DISH customers received can only help AMC’s bottom line — now AMC will receive a per episode fee for The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc.
the roku box they gave me fine, but unless you have super fast internet, (my dsl 3megs won’t do) you can’t get HD and I won’t watch walking dead unnless it’s in HD. that’s what I’m used to and I won’t go back. I don’t even mind paying $3 per episode to watch. but even though the roku box says HD then in fine print it says how it will adjust to your internet speed, which means no HD if you don’t have super fast internet. this whole thing really is crap. the only two shows hardly worth watching and the walking dead and hell on wheels and dish has yanked the one channel that shows them
Not a problem. AMC returns to Dish or my service gets canceled.
With Obama-nomics in full swing, my wife and I are on the fence concering cancelling Dishnetwork to save money. Missing one of the few excellent original series could just make the decision for us.
I read these comments and can see that ignorance must really be bliss for some. AMC got greedy and wanted DishNetwork to pay more to air the channel. Which means my cost each month would go up. I say screw AMC. Their recent actions have show how greedy they really are. Like cutting production budget for The Walking Dead. They lost a great director over that. Now this crap. I like The Walking Dead series, but I’m on DishNetwork’s side on this issue. I won’t buy per episode. I won’t buy the series on disk, as I have the first season (I won’t buy season 2 until AMC discovers what customers are). I like Breaking Bad and have watched all seasons with plans to buy the disk sets, but again, I’m not going to now because of AMC’s action. They need to be put in the corner and learn.
Does dish pay you by the hour or post?
Come on Dish Network.Just pay the extra money please.I mean I want to watch the Walking Dead.
We are moving to DirectTV if Dish can not resolve the AMC trouble within a week. We feel abandoned by Dish after 15 years of loyalty. We have watched our costs climb and services decline over the years, while offering great deals to bring in new customers. Not sorry Dish, but at +$150 per month we expect and deserve more respect!
I don’t care if it’s AMC who is at fault here. As consumers the only course of action we can take is simply switching carriers. Unfortunately I’m in the middle of my 2-year agreement with DISH.
Get this resolved. We just want to watch our favorite shows.
Guess what? If Dish pays AMC more, where do you think that money comes from? Im pretty sure Dish does not own a money tree and therefore the money must come from the customers. If you are so upset that Dish dropped AMC, why dont you open your wallet and pay AMC directly. Oh, wait…Not one whining one of you will do that. Its lose-lose for everyone. AMC loses money and viewers over their greed, Dish loses money and customers by not being bullied into paying more, and the customer gets screwed by losing a few mediocre shows. I say GO DISH since it is the only thing keeping my wallet from getting thinner. Which would you rather have, more money, or more tv?
