Bob Costas tonight wryly criticized his bosses, their London Olympics coverage, and NBC‘s infamous sneak preview of its new fall show Animal Practice (“evidently a comedy, at least we’re hoping it is”) to Conan O’Brien, who replied “You’re the best guest ever!”:
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Poor Conan he’s still angry and he only has himself to blame. He should have said yes to the midnight start time following Leno’s half hour. Now he’s stuck on TBS with the smallest audience possible. He should have stayed where he was he had the best show ever it was perfect for his personality at 12:35 and it was much funnier and more inventive than the crap he’s doing now.
Come on – Conan has no idea what “Animal Practice” is all about or the debacle that NBC made. Just what do his staff of writers do all day if not to keep up with fiascoes like this. The whole country was talking about this when it happened and Conan is clueless? He’s right about one thing, first class guest, second-rate host.
It’s obvious that Conan posed the question “what is animal practice?” only to serve as a lead in question to prompt Costas to continue on with his story.
Questions the host will ask are often run by the guest before hand, in order for the guest to prepare with jokes or stories, and to serve as preparation for any topics the guest wants to speak about.
Only NBC could make Conan unfunny. Their latest “comedy”, New Normal, is a disaster. It’s almost as if the ghost of Zucker past still haunts their programming choices.
Jay Leno is smarter than Conan…he got his show and time slot back.
Wow….all the Conan bashing. WTF?
On another note….thank god someone involved with the broadcast finally called NBC out on that atrocious decision. Their coverage of the Olympics as a whole was terrible, so I disagree with Costas on that. But his wry explanation of the closing ceremonies was hysterical!
