EXCLUSIVE: CBS is expanding its relationship with The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller. The network has handed out a pilot production commitment to The Advocates, a legal drama written and executive produced by Heller. It centers on a female lawyer and a male ex-con who team up as “victim advocates,” going to the edge of the law to right wrongs and fight for the underdog. Warner Bros TV, the studio behind The Mentalist, also produces the new project.
The Mentalist was a breakout for CBS when it launched in 2008 and netted a record off-network sale for Warner Bros TV a year into its run. After airing in the Thursday 10 PM slot for its first four seasons, the series starring Simon Baker is moving to Sunday at 10 PM this fall. Before Mentalist, WME-repped Heller co-created and executive produced HBO’s Rome.

So Psych to Suits? Someone likes USA Network…
@Alex –
Why are Psych fans so insecure? It’s odd.
LOLOL! You re SO right!
A gifted personality for sure; didn’t get into ROME, but love THE MENTALIST … even though it got oddly off track when it wasn’t addressing the Red John scenario. I hope being on Sundsay doesn’t kill it off this year … going to be a tough road to hoe. You know, Sunday on CBS isn’t a winning formula anymore.
Other than Red John, Mentalist is a snooze fest.
Sounds like we’re getting a second helping!
I wish there were some lines of work that you could make dynamic series about, other than doctors, lawyers, and police officers.
Well, there’s always spies, gangsters and serial killers!
Done Spies. Done Gangsters. Done Serial Killers. Didn’t do Rome but LOVED that although he thought I was to cool for school to hire me. Love the Mentalist and love Bruno. So it’s f…in love fest from one Brit to another.
Nice one mate.
SM
CBS already has a new show about a lawyer – Made In Jersey. i dont understand
Love the Mentalist and it’s a crime it’s never up for Emmys. Patrick Jane is the best detective character since Columbo.
Didn’t the show spend its first season airing Tuesdays at 9:00 ET?
