BREAKING: CAA has signed JJ Abrams, the impresario behind such TV series as Alias, Lost, Fringe, Alcatraz, Person Of Interest, and the upcoming Revolution, and the feature director of Mission: Impossible 3 (and producer of 4), the rebooted Star Trek, its sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, and Super 8, and the producer of the massive hit Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Cloverfield, and the owner and Chairman/CEO of Bad Robot Productions with EVP Bryan Burk. Abrams has been without an agent since June 2011, after leaving WME following the exit of his reps David Lonner and John Fogelman. CAA has been after this guy forever, and who can blame them? He’s a triple threat and Emmy- and Golden Globe- and soon-to-be-Oscar winner. Best of all for CAA, Abrams is a much-in-demand self-generator who is always churning out new projects via Bad Robot. Abrams’ prolific output makes him the closest thing his generation has to a young Steven Spielberg.
Abrams has built his Bad Robot into a major supplier of films to Paramount Pictures and into a formidable TV production company based at Warner Bros TV. Even so, I’m told that he felt he and Bad Robot could be working at a higher level with a major agency behind them. And that plum assignment has gone to CAA in what I would call the agency’s biggest ‘get’ in quite a long time. Because this is not just a prestigious but also potentially wildly lucrative piece of business.
Abrams is known for his loyalty and only left WME after both his agents there walked. When he left WME, Abrams relied on Lonner and his Oasis Media Group, a boutique management and production company. Then Abrams helped Fogelson found and fund Factorymade Ventures. Abrams ceased his involvement in Factorymade back in January once Fogelson was up and running. Presently, Abrams’ and Lonner’s relationship has evolved to the point where they will produce projects together, but Lonner will no longer be his manager. But from now on, CAA will steer Abrams’ and Bad Robots’ fortunes in TV and features. Alan Wertheimer continues to be his attorney.
Abrams and Bad Robot have three TV series on the air this coming season: CBS’ hot sophomore Person Of Interest, Fox’s departing critical darling Fringe, and the upcoming NBC drama Revolution. Bad Robot also just sold a TV pilot to Fox that will be scripted by Fringe‘s J.H. Wyman. And Abrams recently re-upped at Warner Bros TV where he has been since 2006. The rich new 3-year deal will keep Bad Robot at the TV studio until 2015. In terms of upcoming movie development, Abrams’ rebooted Star Trek sequel hits theaters in 2013, and he and Tom Cruise have begun plotting out Mission: Impossible 5.

We tried so hard to get him to come to APA.
BWAHAHAHA!
You take that back.
I thought it was a tossup between APA and Innovative. So close!
You forgot to mention Abrams artists hahaha lmao
Oh the fantasy world that apa lives in makes me chuckle…
We tried even harder to get him at Paradigm!
Boy, it’s always such a nail-biting cliffhanger when an A-lister leaves WME.
“Where will they end up? CAA! Wow, I did NOT see that coming!”

Congratulations, you deserve it, hard work does pay off!
After he closed his TV and Film deals too. Smart. Yet another big piece of talent not paying commission at CAA. You’re a schmuck if you pay 10% there… Or I guess anything at all.
Yes, but CAA’s proximity to him and his company will put a lot of CAA clients in business on his projects, so it’s a win either way.
Anyone know which team of TV and Film agents signed him?
Another failed UTA “pursuit.” I’m sure after that quality production slate meeting and talent drop by (i.e. we have a lot of up and comer actors I promise) go back to doing what you do best: signing the new “hot director” out of Nigeria and “talent” out of Toronto that will take 8 years to develop then CAA we then steal away.
Who cares!
Bummer!
CAA….still breaking new talent. Props are in order!
They will do a great job for him and they have they resources and synergy to take his brand to even greater heights. Congratulations to everyone on the team!
I guess they’ll validate HIS parking…

Who was doing VERY VERY WELL without an agency. Why go back? Something fishy……
The agencies should just have an NCAA type national singing day. The talent can hold press conferences with friends and family. They can get creative with the 5 hats in front of them. I would pay to see that.
Has anyone seen the “Revolution” pilot. It was released early to create buzz. It’s awful!!! In the first 5 minutes I was saying to myself “something is wrong.” Person of interest is a great show but the pilot for Revolution was unbelievably bad. I wonder how much involvement J.J. actually had to produced such a poor show. I am thinking it’s just his name and money attached to the show. You will all know what I mean when you see it.
It kind of reminds me of “The Event” I kept watching because the main narrative was intriguing but the person to person dialogue and acting were horrendous.
The weird thing is that the idea for the story of Revolution seems good but the execution of the idea is a terrible failure. I figure the show “Walking Dead” may have a quarter of the budget of a prime time show but Revolution looks like a student film.
By the way the “Last Resort” pilot was released early too. Pretty awesome! Hope they can keep it up. If the series can be as good as the pilot they may have something.
But the lead has great hair — no electricity in this end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it future, but a really nice blow out. Gossip Girl meets Blade Runner.
Next JJ Abrams show must be ‘curiosity’.(sorry nasa) People already live on the Moon and Mars. Japan planned to have a moon base in 2030. Russia -2032. NASA not sure when. But Sun start dying faster than expected. Right now, it is estimated that the sun is halfway in its burning hydrogen to produce helium phase, which should go for another 4 billion years or so (although the sun will progressively get hotter over that time) So in mass panic begins war between people on Mars with people on the moon and people on the earth. They all fight to survive.

‘Higher level’? So Bad Robot leaving Paramount confirmed?
I like Revolution. Best new drama for the season alongside with Elementary and 666 park av.. Amazing show. Adventure drama with a lot of action, suspense, love story(Charlie&Nate), thriller, some mistery. Its not complicated as i expected. Entertaining, simple and easy to follow. Great show. Easly will win people choice award for new drama and teen choice award.
I hope CBS will give person of interest TV’S #1 NEW DRAMA(as they advertise it) post super bowl slot. All depends from what CBS want – best ratings right now or look for the future. If they want best ratings now TBBT/TAHM will be the choice. But with dramas so much in decline in last 5 years (for all big 4 networks) plus CBS aging dramas wise choice will be PoI. I mean they already start drama rotation – CSI miami is out, CSI NY in friday, TM in sunday and CSI in decline too. They all will be out this or next season. And with post super bowl slot PoI will be second anchor/pillar with NCIS for the next 10 years. If person of interest take post super bowl slot CBS can order spin-off with female lead(hope for keira knightley). After Mr. Reese(hero in suit) or Jack(24) its time to see female hero in dress.

He’s no Spielberg.
+1. I can’t believe the reference to an Oscar either. The guy is a poser.
A hundred bucks says he’s not paying full commission, CAA just wanted the distinction of saying they signed him to offset the loss of Aloni et al…
No one has mentioned what a tragedy this is for David Lonner! No matter what the spin in this article, it has to totally suck to no longer manage what is arguable one of the biggest names in the biz. As another manager with big dreams, my heart aches.
Lonner doesn’t need to manage JJ since they are going to produce projects together. And they’ve had a relationship for 20 years, Lonner will still be involved in his life.
As for CAA, JJ has wanted to go to them for years, but could never convince himself to leave Fogleman. Richard Lovett has tried to sign him away for years, it was about time, even though last time JJ was up for grabs and chose to stick at WME, Rich tried to sabatoge his career. Oh well though, its JJ Abrams, he’ll do great anywhere
