EXCLUSIVE: Wonderland Sound & Vision and Voltage Pictures are starting preproduction on A Many Splintered Thing, an offbeat film that will star Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan.
The film, which will begin production October 26, is called an “anti-romantic comedy,” and it marks the Captain America: The First Avenger star’s first film as executive producer. Justin Reardon will direct.
In the vein of Amelie and (500) Days Of Summer, the film tells the story of a young man disillusioned by love who meets a breathtaking young woman at a charity dinner by pretending to be a philanthropist. Turns out that she’s engaged to a guy who doesn’t like her going on dates. Challenged by the chase, and egged on by his eclectic friends, he feigns a platonic relationship in order to keep seeing her as he tries to conquer her heart. The film is being produced by Voltage’s Nicolas Chartier and Craig Flores and Wonderland’s McG and Mary Viola.
Voltage and Wonderland are currently casting the supporting roles. Wonderland initially optioned the Black List screenplay from Chris Shafer & Paul Vicknair last year. The screenplay was also a 2011 Nicholl Fellowship Finalist. Wonderland brought the project to Voltage to co-produce and finance. Voltage and Wonderland then attached commercials director Reardon. Voltage Pictures is handling foreign sales on the picture.
Evans recently starred in Marvel’s The Avengers and reprises in Captain America 2 in January. He is upcoming in The Iceman, which recently premiered at Venice and will play here at the Toronto Film Festival.
“With Reardon’s uniquely beautiful vision for the fantastical journey that these characters take, and Chris and Michelle’s intelligence and talent, there is no doubt that this film challenge audiences preconceived notions of a saccharine-laced romantic comedy,” said Flores.

Hope they got a re-write on this one. Love Monaghan!!!!!!!!!!!!
love these 2 actors!!

[x] wasn’t for me
It sounds like this movie has a lot of potential and I hear Reardon is a great director.
The material needs to be elevated, and Reardon is the man for the job.
Seconded. Clunky script, great, promising director.
Congrats to Paul and Chris. Really awesome guys who wrote a cool script.
Fun fact: SPLINTERED only lost the Nicholl because one member of the committee (Eva Marie Saint) doesn’t like the word “fuck”, and that script uses the word almost 100 times.
there goes my fees that I was going to use to submit two scripts to Nicholl. Nicholl- were drama-genre stories gives you a 90%+ better chance to win.
nothing to be proud of… surprised you would even bother posting this. so who are you? agent or one of the writers? maybe manager?
script got tedius. needs a rewrite in a bad way. am sure it’s getting one.
So says the wannabe writer wreaking of jealousy. I met these authors a few months ago and am happy to see them breaking through the ceiling of unproduced writers, which I’m assuming you are one of. Too tedious for you?
just read the script. nothing clunky here. totally makes sense how they got this cast and why it got made so fast. dont understand the haters on this one at all.
Chris and Michelle.
Cool.
Congratulations to Chris Shafer & Paul Vicknair. Very inspiring.
And if there’s a re-write, let them do it THEMSELVES.
Very inspiring adventure this script has taken to now land up in marketing and production. It’s that CLICK, the sound of everything lining up. I will pay attention to the investors side of this one. Peering inside the portfolio. There is a FORMULA for success. Delegate. Xox
