The fake news shows beat the real news at the GOP convention in Tampa last week. Among the adults 18-34, men 18-34 and men 18-24 demographics, Comedy Central‘s The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report were more viewed and higher-rated than Fox News, CNN and MSNBC in the 11 PM-midnight time slot. Among adults 18-34, Comedy Central pulled in a 0.8 rating and 450,000 viewers compared to FNC’s 0.59 and 329,000 viewers during the hour. MSNBC got a 0.29 rating and 158,000 viewers while CNN had 0.26 and 146,000 viewers.

The one-hour Comedy Central block also topped CNN and MSNBC among adults 18-49, though hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert could not beat Fox News. With 824,000 viewers and a 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demo Comedy Central was behind FNC’s 1,021,000 viewers and 0.97 rating in the 18-49 demo. MSNBC had 0.41 rating with 430,000 viewers and CNN had a 0.38 rating with 415,000 total viewers. Overall, FNC dominated the other networks with its coverage: Over the three days of the convention, the network won the 8-11 EDT slots against CNN and MSNC every time. Fox also beat ABC, NBC and CBS in the one hour the main networks gave to live convention coverage — from 10-11 EDT. That victory was among total viewers and adults 25-54.

It should.
After all, the only way one can survive the ‘serious media’ endless coverage of this insanity is through laughter.
Congrats!!!!!
The sad thing is, for many people, these are the only “news” shows they watch.
And what exactly do you consider to be a “news” program?
The sad thing is, these “fake” news shows provide more facts than most of these news networks are willing to provide. It may be prefaced as a joke, but it still provides the real truth behind many of these politicians.
Just because they are CNN, MSNBC, FOX… doesn’t mean you are learning anything about this political race. It’s the same 3 talking points over and over… which are then analyzed on these Comedy Central shows.
It’s painfully obvious now that Stewart and Colbert are the only ‘news’ people on tv. They’re the only people that digest the news for you and regurgitate it into delicious information easy to comprehend.
Comedy(?) Central just one more reason I don’t have cable.
A frozen TV screen (thanks digital, NOT) is better than Stewart and Colbert……
Fox News won over all networks and shows. I understand Stewart and Colbert winning the youth. The youth choice of shows explains why they are one of the most misinformed and uniformed group of voters.
Did you ever really look at the numbers? Everyone knows who watches Faux News. So then the rest of the American population is watching CNN, MSNBC, and the network news, or “anything else than Fox”. Which number is greater? FNC watchers, or everyone else watching other news at the same time?
And don’t dis Stewart & Colbert unless you watch them on a regular basis. I agree that not everyone likes their style of humor, to each his or her own. But, their fact-checking skits using satire, comedy and irony to make the point are frequently more accurate than any press outlet and are usually quicker to catch the lie or hypocrisy as it occurs.
Give me a break about the state of the youth or viewers of these shows! Sure, there are slackers in every generation — I’m looking at all of us, Baby Boomers thru Milleniums (Millenia?). But there are also intelligent, well-informed people of every age, class, education level, professional standing, etc., who appreciate smart, pointed and sometimes tacky humor.
Get off your high horse. Fox News watchers are consistently more misinformed about the actual facts than the average American. A partially accurate incomplete fact with opinionated spin does not count as reality. You are entitled to your own opinions. You are not, however, entitled to your own facts.
