EXCLUSIVE: After a lengthy search, Prime Suspect co-star Damon Gupton has been cast as the lead in AMC’s untitled Richard LaGravenese/Tony Goldwyn project. Written by LaGravenese and to be directed by Goldwyn, the ensemble drama is a legal thriller centered on Adam Page (Gupton), a District Attorney who uncovers new evidence that prompts the reinvestigation of a sensational murder case. Marin Ireland plays the female lead. Gupton, repped by SMS Talent in LA and Harden/Curtis in NY, recently guest starred in the Bullies episode of HBO’s Newsroom.

I personally cast this man last night in my living room. First choice was 50 cents, but he had a scheduling conflict. Anyway, this guy was good on newsroom, so I said, yeah- this guy!

Didn’t recognize him at first but immediately recall his powerful, impressive, emotive performance as a gay black Republican interviewee on “The Newsroom.” Based off that alone, this guy has some chops.
Looking through this history of this and noticed that Kerry Barden and Paul Schnee are the CDs on this. They are great at finding the gems and a pleasure to audition for–both in LA and NY, you always feel comfortable and looked after and Kerry, Paul, Rich and Allison are a classy gang. Smart and funny. Great job guys, on this and AUGUST OSAGE COUNTY. Where’s that Oscar for Casting???
