Eva Longoria says unlike Clint Eastwood she will not be bringing out any empty chairs when she speaks to her party’s convention tomorrow. “People keep comparing us because we are both from the entertainment industry and (sic) he had a very different narrative,” the former Desperate Housewives actress told CNN’s Piers Morgan tonight at the DNC. “I come from a very different position than Clint Eastwood,” said the long time Barack Obama supporter and Latino outreach activist. “It was interesting yeah but I haven’t seen the whole thing so it’s not fair for me to judge it,” Longoria said of Eastwood’s unsuccessful appearance as the surprise speaker at the GOP convention last Thursday in Tampa. Longoria, who is a co-chair of the Obama reelection campaign, is scheduled to speak tomorrow night to the delegates in Charlotte, North Carolina on the subject of Hispanic women and education. Longoria isn’t the only Hollywood star taking the stage in Charlotte this week. Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Kerry Washington are reportedly also going to address the convention on Thursday before President Obama. Last night Harold & Kumar star Kal Penn spoke to the Democrats on the opening night of the convention. Penn, who had a stint as an associate director for the administration’s Office Of Public Engagement, made fun of Eastwood by thanking the invisible man in the chair – a reference to the empty chair that was supposed to symbolize Obama that Eastwood did a mock interview with in Tampa.

why do we need to have either of them tell us who we should be in support of??
She’s right – she’ll never be a respected actor or director.
hahahahah!! end of story, next!
Excuse me? Unsuccessful? People are still talking about it? How is that in a sense not successful?
His performance is being talked about, but not in a positive light. That’s not successful or effective for anyone. What people should be talking about is what Romney, and to a lesser extent, Ryan, had to say since they are the nominees.
Eastwood is an icon. A great actor and probably an even better director. But that empty chair was a rambling mess.
Yes, it was unsuccessful because everyone was talking about it — as this weird, distracting thing. It completely overshadowed Romney’s speech and dominated the news cycle. In no way was it the “narrative” that Romney’s campaign was looking for.
Because no one is talking about Mitt Romney’s speech.
lol maybe that’s due to mittens and not clint
So Clint Eastwood’s comments weren’t successful? Well if you are an Obama supporter it probaly wasn’t what you wanted to hear about this President, but it was effective. The empty chair worked very well, maybe too well for Obama champions. After all Eastwood is a Hollywood icon for several decades and his characters are part of pop culture. In this Hollywood there exists a political group think, kind of like the Borg and Clint didn’t join in.The comments were successful.
You are confusing the issue. His status has nothing to do with the effectiveness of his bit. It wasn’t effective at all. It was messy. It was rambling. Humorous at times, but worked very well? You’re entitled to your opinion. Even some commentators on Fox news weren’t all that positive about the “performance.”
Just as an FYI, Clint supports gay marriage and is less conservative in general on social issues. How does that sit with YOUR group think?
Let’s repeal all those Hollywood tax cuts. Everybody needs to pay their fair share, after all.
Several months ago I picked up a book called Hollywood Hypocrites and there was a chapter about these tax credits. I didnt know how it worked but the author laid it out well. It is a major financial perk that would not be given to just any private business, that is the giving and trading and reselling of tax credits.
Fair share is not about the Hollywood crowd paying a larger share of their income, it is about telling us that they want more of our income because the inept bureaucrats cant figure out how to get 48% of the population to pay any share at all. Celebrats think that if they cut a PSA they have done their bit, while they scoop up goodie bags, get freebie designer duds to wear on the red carpet, and make more money on less talent and education than any of us in the working class. Eva Longoria does not need to tell me she will be no Clint Eastwood. I already figured that out.
This is the last time Eva Longoria will be mentioned with Oscar winner Clint Eastwood.
I find it amazing that she is the co-chair of a re-election campaign, is set to speak at the convention, and yet she admits to not having watched the whole Eastwood speech. If she’s this involved in politics, the LEAST she could do is watch the ONE HOUR primetime portion of the RNC broadcast. Way to stay on top of what’s happening outside of Zealotville, Eva.
Eva Longoria can only spin empty dreams of ever attaining the stature of Clint Eastwood.
If I were Clint, I’d be insulted she even mentioned my name in passing!
But, Clint’s a lot classier guy than me.
Wow, people, calm down! Eva Longoria isn’t comparing herself to Clint, she’s just answering a question posed to her by laughable Larry King replacement Pierce Morgan. She didn’t go out of her way to compare herself to Clint. And for all those people who honestly think Eastwood’s one-man show with a chair was successful, well, you’re right, it is successful but not in making Obama look bad but in making Eastwood look like a senile old fool and reinforcing the stereotype that Republicans are right-wing crazies which is a shame because many Republicans are smart, logical people, not people who think talking to inanimate objects on national television is a good idea.
Eastwood appeared (and gave that rambling, goofy presentation) out of concern for Americans. Longoria is involved in politics because she is concerned about Latinos in America.
Noone can say anything about this beautiful actress other than she supports her party, she’s a beautiful and successful actress and her people trust and believe in her choices. A great and beautiful lady!!!
Let’s see, he’s had seven children by five different women, only two of which he married, and apparently he wasn’t too good about publicly acknowledging some of those kids. So there’s your classy part. As for being a great director…Did you see Hereafter or J. Edgar. I’ll give you Unforgiven, but that was a script that would be tough to screw up. Good director, not great. The best thing about Clint is that he believes that it is nobody’s business if gays want to marry.
Well freedom of speech is definitely demonstrated in these posts. It is unfortunate though that so many people are sharing their judgements against Obama supporters. It seems we Obama supporters have to meet a criteria of republican set standards to have a right to back our President! Wow is all I can muster up for that concenses. While we are critiqued and disected for our credibilities, we will soldier on to get the right man to remain in the white house. Our focus will not stray to the degenerative mindset of their supporters qualifications, but instead our minsets will focus on a very simple attitude of “Yes We Can.”
Nevermind the Eastwood comparisons– How voters have the slightest effing interest in Eva Longoria’s thoughts on politics? This is the worst casting since Sofia Coppola in GODFATHER III. She automatically brings the same sense of WTF? as Eastwood’s empty chair– just by being invited. Let’s get Paris Hilton up there while we’re at it! This is some awesome strategy we’re witnessing here, folks!
Nobody will confuse them ever. He is respected actor/director. She is. Hmm. She… What exactly is she famous for?
She’s received a handful of Emmy noms for Desperate Housewives, a show that was for 4-6 seasons really popular and for 1-2 kind of popular. Longoria has also popped up in supporting roles in some mid level films. Certainly not a HUGE celebrity, but a recognizable, likable, and successful one. Biggest reason that she’s speaking at the DNC is cause she appeals most to latinos and women, both of which are important demographics to the Obama campaign.
Since when did Eva become a reputable source for education of anyone? Actors are given way too much credit once they become famous for having skills and background they do not actually have.
I’m a big Clint Eastwood fan, and I will never forgive the Republicans for trotting him out for their own purposes — an 82 year-old man, no prep, no help, just let him twist in the wind and hope he buys a few votes. Why not protect the guy, help him plan his speech and not look like a fool. But no, they were too anxious to use him and then dump him. Nice work, GOP.
Clint Eastwood is an intelligent man and I doubt anyone can manipulate him. He set the conditions about what he would say. He admitted he is not a public speaker and he hates teleprompters so he wanted to adlib.
