Ewan McGregor has been cast alongside Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts in August: Osage County, the movie adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer- and Tony-winning play that begins production September 24. The Weinstein Company made the announcement today. McGregor will play Bill Fordham, the estranged husband of Barbara (Roberts) and son-in-law of pill-popping matriarch Violet Weston (Streep). A college professor, he left his wife for one of his students but wants to be there for his family. His marriage is disintegrating and his patience is running thin. McGregor, most recently seen in Beginners and Salmon Fishing In The Yemen, is up next in The Impossible, the Juan Antonio Bayona tsunami movie that just had its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. He is repped by UTA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, as well as United Agents in the UK.

Ghost Writer and Fishing in the Yemen got repeat viewing from me. All because of McGregor. Love to work with him one day.
He’s playing very old roles now. You sure know your getting older when Ewan’s playing 49/50 year olds. He’s showing his age though.
Thank God for guys like Ewen. He could of fallen in to the crap actor starring in Ocean’s 14, 15, 16. Ewen works on terrific projects. Quality. Doesn’t mean they all turn out that way but they are quality. He’s confident in his talent.
There a some great films being made now. The indie resurge is beginning. I’m talking really good scripts. Not wannabe scripts with a big star. Something like Mary Marlene Macy. This first-time writer-director is great. Just caught it last night.
He’s a great actor. He’ll be great in this role.
He is great, great, great but, if you’re familiar with the play, this is shaping up to be one strange cast. If Roberts was virtually hounded out of town when she did “Three Days of Rain” on Broadway why does anyone believe that she is right for that part? Why does she? Meryl’s networking rules I guess, calling the casting shots.
Ewan McGregor and Meryl Streep working together?! Fantastic! Ewan is an amazing actor with so much charisma. I am highly looking forward to this film!
The play sucked. So of course they make it into a movie.
I’ll watch the film for the tiny glimpses of Cumberbatch as Little Charles but all the ranting and raving from Streep and Roberts in this film will be a right turn off.
It’s a dream come true,my two favorite actors are going to work together!Ewan and Meryl will make a great team.I’m so excited about this one!
Ewan is a great actor and his character described above will not be easy to play, but he can do it ! I admired him in “little Adam” and I’m pretty sure he’ll be great in this role.
Working with Meryl Streep will be a +++.
Another scale +10 payday for Ewan…he must be thrilled to be the 5th lead in what is turning out to be a completely horrible movie.
