EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Fat, Forty And Fired, a multi-camera family comedy from writer Jeff Astrof (Grounded For Life), went to ABC with a put pilot commitment. Based on the book of the same name by Nigel Marsh, Fat, Forty And Fired centers on a man and father who, upon losing his job, realizes that there is more to life than work. Warner Bros. TV is producing, with Astrof executive producing alongside Mike Karz and Josie Rosen. Astrof is repped by ICM Partners, 3 Arts and Michael Gendler.
Marsh’s memoir Fat, Forty And Fired: The Year I Lost My Job And Got A Life recounts the Australian marketing executive’s life during the nine months he spent at home with the kids when his company was shut down.
Astrof serves as a co-executive producer on Warner Bros TV’s upcoming multi-camera CBS comedy Partners. His deal for Partners included a blind script commitment, which led to Fat, Forty And Fired. In addition to Fat, Forty And Fired and Partners, Astrof worked with CBS and Warner Bros. TV on The New Adventures Of Old Christine, which he joined after the pilot and served as a co-executive producer for the entire five-season run.

Yessssssssss!
Jeff is a good guy, and funny writer. But he’s been in development deals since 1996 when he left “Friends.” Nothing he’s ever developed has been successful. So now, so after a decade and a half of not-success, he gets a put pilot commitment? Good for you, Jeff…
I think his sister, Liz Astrof, wrote that last one…
Nice! Jeff! Nice!
What about the wonderful Greg Grunberg for lead? Lex Medlin? Carlos Mencia?
@Really? Talented people can do many pilots/failed series over many years before they develop a hit… almost all pilots fail… almost all series fail…. you know this right? By your standard Chuck Lorre should have given up somewhere around “Nathan’s Choice.”
Grunberg’s not fat. I’m fat! What about me, Jeff?
Fat, Forty and Fired – isn’t that The Real New Normal.
Yeah, a fun show that isn’t on cable! We need more shows on ABC that air from Friday night to Sunday night, now that DH is off the air and most other shows of interest have somehow been jacked by HBO or SHO. On the Emmy Awards show last night, I was lost, never hearing of any of the shows that were listed as winners. Come on ABC – lets get less sports and more comedy!
