BREAKING…The Sacha Gervasi-directed Hitchcock is set for a limited platform release November 23, 2012, meaning Fox Searchlight is placing it at the heart of the movie awards season. Based
on Stephen Rebello’s book Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho, the film is a love story about the filmmaker and his wife Alma Reville. Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson and Danny Huston star along with Toni Collette, Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, James D’Arcy, Michael Wincott, Richard Portnow, and Kurtwood Smith. John J. McLaughlin penned the screenplay. Ivan Reitman, Tom Pollock, Joe Medjuck, Tom Thayer, Alan Barnette are producing.

Wow, now Hollywood is making movies about directors.
I can’t wait to see “Adventures of the Key Grip!”
Seriously, there are so many more deserving directors that should have their own movie first. I would see a movie called “Spielberg” or “Mc Chi” before I would watch a movie about the creator of “Angry Birds!”
Wow right back at you, dude. First off – Hitchcock is one of the All. Time. Greats. (I’ve no doubt Spielberg would wholeheatedly agree….). There’s enough fascinating material from his life for several films….just this summer a critics poll moved “Vertigo” to the too of their best films of all time list, knocking down “Citizen Kane” for the first time since that poll was taken. He never won a competition Oscar, but that doesn’t diminish his film legacy one iota.
Second: this film is ostensibly about the making of “Psycho”, but at its core is the story of his relationship with his wife, Alma….and it’s a fantastic tribute to a woman who was as much his collaborator in his film work as in his personal life. I can totally understand why Fox wants to get it out ASAP, because Helen Mirren is going to be magnificent in this part.
Lastly, movies about movies & movie people have been around forever and can sometimes turn out great, sometimes not so great. In this case, they started with a fantastic script, brought together an outstanding production team, and hired some of the best actors around…..HITCHCOCK definitely has the potential give one of the great ones.
I agree with everything you said except the first Sight and Sound poll was taken in 1952 and “Bicycle Thieves” was #1. “Citizen Kane” started its reign in 1962. That doesn’t diminish “Vertigo”‘s accomplishment in this poll, but I just felt I should mention it in the interest of full disclosure. Sorry to be a stickler.
