Here’s the first UK trailer for Gambit. The remake of the 1966 Michael Caine-Shirley MacLaine heist pic is written by Joel and Ethan Coen and stars Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, Alan Rickman and Tom Courtenay. It’s slated to be released in the UK on November 21. CBS Films has not set a U.S. release date.

Am I the only one disappointed that this isn’t an X-Men Spin-off?
Yes, yes you are.
Ooooo, this looks bad. These guys are tone deaf when it comes to broad comedy. It just comes across contemptuous, like offering fat people fast food and then laughing at them when they eat it.
Who are ‘these guys’ – if you are referring to the Coen bros, they didn’t direct this. There is one reason this trailer did not work for me, Diaz and her broad southern accent. Here’s the simply rule when casting people like Diaz….. she’s been around awhile, audiences really know her and really like her – when she plays that Cameron we know.
No southern accent – it comes across as too much a stretch. It’s like giving Ben Stiller or Kevin Costner a British accent. Just that alone took me right out of the trailer.
Hated it it!
Yay, love Colin Firth!
It WAS on the release sked, according to Rentrak…Late this year…then early January……. then baldy comes into CBS and takes over acquisitions (WTG on The Words — truly awful) after leaving SPWAG and now it’s TBD…
is this possible because it wasn’t his movie?

Ditto. This has all the agile tonal mastery of a nail through the foot.
looks really bad!!
Dear Cameron,
Please stop with the taking your clothes off. Those days are gone.
Speak for yourself.
The story is totally confusing and there’s not a single laugh out loud joke. Of course, I’m under 60 years old, so…
It’s difficult to determine if the film is of any quality because this trailer is dreadful.
Hey, campers, the original wasn’t the gossamer romp you think it was. The cast was great, the chemistry was not, and as sweet a guy as director Ronald Neame was, the movie was a crawl. Not saying that this remake looks any better — “charmless” and “strained” come to mind — but I can understand why the filmmakers wanted to have a go at updating it.
“I can understand why the filmmakers wanted to have a go at updating it.”
Yeah because why come up with an original idea when you can just remake a mediocre one.
I absolutely adore Cameron and think Colin is a charmer. I’m sure I gonna like this movie too. It looks like harmless fun and I do not expect anything else.
Usually enjoy work by the Coens, but gotta say that Cameron Diaz seems hopelessly miscast, at least as far as the trailer shows. Does she really think that’s a believable western or southern accent? Hardly. It is grating and reduces what humor value there might be in hers scenes.
“CBS Films has not set a U.S. release date” because they won’t sell any tickets to this turkey no matter how many millions they waste on P&A.
Were the Coens ever going to direct this?
When is someone going to call bullshit on CBS Films?
This has got to be the worst movie company in the last twenty-five years. Who’s running this shit factors Replacement Refs?
Moonves must have money to burn from his geezer shows because I don’t why this turkey of company hasn’t gone belly up.
And oh yeah… BULLSHIT!
Who cares about Cameron Diaz’s bad Texas accent when you have the likes of Colin Firth being dorky, Alan Rickman being naked, and Stanley Tucci being British? I enjoyed the trailer and can’t wait to see the movie. It’s supposed to be a broad comedy, not Masterpiece Theatre.
didn’t look to good to me either!
Sucks when good roles dry up for good actors and they are relegated to films like this. Come to think of it, most of what comes out of Hollywood is crap. Whole industry needs an overhaul.
