UPDATE: Jillian Barberie Reynolds this morning clarified her tweet. “I wasn’t let go as in ‘fired’,” she says on her blog. But she does make clear that KTTV wouldn’t let her co-host anymore and wanted to stick her “in the field” a few times a week instead. ”But the truth is, I loved being on set. Teasing Steve, doing celebrity interviews and working off script and ad libbing! It’s what I do. I could not imagine doing any other role on that show after almost two decades!!”
Previous: When Good Day LA kicked Dorothy Lucey to the curb last May, her co-host Jillian Barberie Reynolds was switched from a full-time KTTV employee to freelance status. Well, now say goodbye to Jillian as well. She was supposed to continue in her current duties though not always five days a week. But on Thursday the Fox-owned Los Angeles station announced it hired Lucey’s much younger blonde replacement Maria Sansone to start Monday – yet didn’t say a word about having changed Reynold’s status. Instead it fell to Jillian, who turned 46 this week (and what a birthday present this was), to tweet:

So far the Twitter reaction from viewers consists mostly of angry pledges to switch to KTLA. With ratings lower and the old team’s salaries higher than management wanted, KTTV will save money without big ticket Reynolds. Meanwhile the mummified Steve Edwards stays on air with the benefit of a longterm contract. Jillian is a onetime Canadian weathergirl who began on Good Day LA in 1995. She now has lots of extracurricular activities (Nutri System spokesperson, Skating With Celebrities, Red Carpet hosting, movie and TV show gigs) after smartly parlaying her airhead persona into fame and fortune.

I would never pledge to watch KTLA out of spite… KTLA is horrible. Everyone is completely out-of-touch with trends and they are not quick on the upkeep when relaying the news. Their jokes are always met with nervous laughter. Sad.
I’ve preferred KTTV GDLA because even ol’ Steve Edwards seems to get it. Even with stupid Jillian’s ribbing him about being old. GDLA has always been tolerable.
I still enjoy Phil Shuman. Tony McEwing seems to be a sweet guy. The women are interchangeable.
KTLA is horrible. But now Good Day LA is turning into the exact same thing. A white-noise, local morning show with no personality. I’ll watch wherever Dorothy and Jillian end up.
The only thing GDLA could do now to make it worse is hire Sam Rubin.

I swear to god, i do not enjoy fox 11 news any more, i find myself drifting away and changing the channel, i loved Dorothy and Jillian but seems like the show is just kinda dreary with not much personality, poor new girls are tryin but they need to be more uplifting and fun like Jillian, i actually wanna find another channel foe my morning news. Dang they sure did make a mistake letting Jillian drift away! Not a good choice….

Fox morning news show SUCKS now!!!!!!!!!! It was great that they got rid of ANNOYING Dorthy Lucey but BIG MISTAKE to get rid of Jillian….. Im so glad she and dorothy are gone. They were so irritating. They would never shut up and let other people talk. I would try to watch an interview with someone and they did all the talking. They would ask a question and then not shut up long enough to let them answer. I would have to change the channel. I will come back to good day now that their gone.
Jullian was always saying how much she hated being on the show. Maybe she did this off the cuff and not heart felt but she never stopped complaining and always bragged about she was the bread winner and her husband was a stay at home dad but how she worked everyday and paid the bills. Maybe he’ll get a job now and I hope Jullian learns that what you wish for does come true sometimes. I liked her but she did interupt alot and didn’t appreciate the dream job she had.

What a shame; Steve, Jullian and Dorothy started my morning off making me smile. When Dorothy left, it took a while to adjust. But now, without Jillian, I will miss Steve. I can remember when Jullian took a fall on stage when she first started. KTLA had a good morning news show with a lot of personality and laughter. I hope KTLA changes their mind and gets Jillian back.
I will missed Jullian, not so much Dorthy. But both will be missed because I love the two on there with Steve Edwards. He was like the father figure to both. I will now swicth channels because I do not like the new school on the other girls had it going on….

RR got it right. I miss the chemistry of Steve with Dorothy and Jillian. I’m the same age as Steve and I was never bothered by Jillian’s “age comments”. The show has lost it’s sparkle and it’s almost the only thing that I watch on Fox because of the political biased ultra conservative viewpoint that they usually espouse. I still watch Good Day LA but if I have to go in another room, I don’t bother to turn up the volume anymore. It’s just Mediocre Day LA now.
I watched Good Day LA because of Steve and Jillian. I have tried to watch the new staff and can’t get into it. Jillian and Steve had a good vibe. I will miss Jillian and hope she gets a great new gig. Go Jillian. xo Georgie

It’s sad about Dorothy Lucey and Jillian Reynolds to be booted off the show. These ladies were inspirational for me in the mornings. Now the new co-anchor should count her employment as temporal, too. I am not watching Fox GDLA anymore and wish Steve the best.
We are so sorry to see Jillian go. We just loved watching this show with Jillian and Dorothy and Steve. The show is just not the same anymore. Now we are fishing for a new program to watch while we eat our breakfast an hang out till we go out.. Jillian was a treasure to watch with her funny sense of humor and her carefree attitude and her classy clothes. She is one classy young lady. I left KTLA in the late 1990′s with Barbara Beck’s departure. Even happier I made the move when Jennifer York left & eventually Carlos Amezcua(sp.) But I’m back now as KTTV REALLY BLEW-IT!

How could ANYONE even consider watching and supporting GDLA in the future…the way it mistreats women. I was appalled to hear of Reynold’s firing…yes she was FIRED, and personally offended about how they treated both Lucey and Reynolds – - completely disrespectful after spending so many years on the show! Shame on you New Management! I have been telling friends and family not to support GDLA. I understand it’s a business, but at least have some respect for these women who were GREAT co-hosts, and were loyal AND dedicated to the show. If you are going to replace ANYONE, it should have been Steve. He is a Mr. “know It all” who constantly interrupts his guests, and co-hosts- – he has simply bought into his own hype!

Remember what happened on the TODAY show when they replaced Jane Pauley. Do you know the outcome of that dysfunctional situation?

I used to love gdla in the early years .Lucy was so silly I thought I was watching a Disney show. Glad they got rid if that stuck on herself Jillian. But it didn’t matter. I had switch to Ktla 4 years earlier .

I love Dorothy,Jillian was always too full of herself. Namedropping and trying to make the show about her. She wore outfits that were totally inappropriate for her age. She wanted all eyes on her. She could have dressed classy not trashy.

She constantly broke into Lucy’s storytime and would either try to upstage the story or downgrade her for her position. It was very frustrating watching her but I kept it up I guess wanting to be there when the score was even and I guess it happened but wish Lucy was back.

Let’s face it, Jillian became very comfortable and her actions showed it. On air while she is supposed to be reporting the weather on her cell phone and not doing her job!! C’om, so lame. It was time for a change and I was one to watch the show because it was entertaining but she and Lucey became stale.
Valid points. I also thought they were becoming too relaxed. Years ago, taking their phones out was funny and “whoa! you can’t do that at work on the air! lol” But since now SO many people think this is acceptable behavior (which it’s not), they began to look like regular ol’ apathetic phone users in traffic holding up progress, not caring about their job to drive their freakin cars properly.
And the vapid Style File is when I would turn the TV off or change the channel and forget to go back… losing my viewership by misstep.
However, they didn’t have to be let go. They could have all been whipped into new life by a substantive change, nixing segments (Style File) or bringing something back in (like Knock-Knock Makeovers) to encourage viewer participation. The simple change to conduct interviews by kicking one of the women out only took the show down a notch. YES, they were ultra-annoying by constantly talking over each other during interviews, but that was not the change to make.
Instead of treating those two like the professional broadcasters they are, they were instead taken out back and shot so much like livestock while Steve was left untouched. As someone alluded to above, people bought into the hype that is Steve Edwards. I like him, but seriously… he was only kept because he’s a man.

BIIIIIIG MISTAKE indeed! I can still remember the time when Jillian did a segment on “Adopt-A-Pet” and got down on her knees next to the dog and then began barking along side it. Steve is okay, but he looks like a canary trapped in a cage with lizards now. No chemistry thats noticeable to this viewer, at all. The new girls and existing ones are too “preppy” and relaxed whereas Jillian did her homework and it was NOTICEABLE to me. I appreciate her outspokenness and wide array of opinions, regardless of whether I agreed with her or not. THE bravest anchor woman ever to be hired..and only an idiot..or idiotS would dismiss such a phenomenal talent.

Jillian was the best thing that happened to Good Day LA, she keptyou interested in the news because it seemed more fun to watch because it wasnt the same old boring news thats on other stations, so I say if you didnt like watching you could have easily changed the channel it must have been something interesting to keep you tuned come on now lets keep it real. We miss you Jillian and Dorothy!

If the ratings were good why change it? Since Dorothy Lucey and Jillian Reynolds are gone I no longer watch GDLA, it’s not as funny. No disrespect to the new person but it will never be the same. Like the saying goes “If it’s not broke don’t try to fix it”. Good Luck to Dorothy and Jillian.

In sales we always say,” people buy from people they like.”…. In this case it was the orriginal trio…Steve, Dorothy and Jillian. The trio was the recipe for success. I have been watching this show since the late 90′s. I don’t feel the connection or loyalty to Good Day LA anymore… Today will be the last day I watch the show. You just lost a loyal Hispanic. I feel the secret recipe is lost.
I hope another network picks up Jillian and Dorothy….. They were and will always be loved by all… I sincerely can’t understand how the fox leadership team aka senior executives would ever allow this to happen.
I stopped watching gdla when they let Dorothy go and now with Jillian gone….sorry I’m watching channel 5. However, the new Asian lady on gdla is pretty funny….she may sway me back….will see
GDLA was my favorite morning show! Now…not so much! I would listen while I got ready for work and watch on a day off. I enjoyed the banter between news, weather, entertainment and sports with Steve, Jillian and Dorothy… with coffee… I have given it a try over the Thanksgiving holidays on my off time… Are these girls trying out for permanent positions?..There is no connection between them and Steve and he doesn’t seem like his wise and informed self…I don’t want to insult the girls by his side but…as a viewer I have sneaking suspicion Steve wants out! Whomever made this decision must be fresh out of “network” school…looking to update?…Do not fix what is not broken…whoever you are!
the morning news is not the same without the 3 together i love steve but Dorothy and Jillian were very entertaining to watch when I got up every morning….I wish they would put the team back together…

Good Day LA (KTTV) played the old bait and switch game with Dorothy and Jillian. The new girl will have her run afterwards which will be her turn to be baited and switched. I loved watching Dorothy, Steve and Jillian. Nothing last forever however, those three have brought many viewers to GDLA. Let’s see what happens with the new crew.
I watch KTTV for the news not for a fashion show or to listen to opinionated comments from anchors. I am glad that they kept the professional anchors. I wish they would get off this superficial Hollywood kick and get back to local news stories.

It’s been years since I watched morning tv, but I did look in at Good Day LA back in the first decade of her run. I would not have described Reynolds as an airhead. Her tweetnouncement was classy.
There is no permanent job in show business, with the possible exception of Sumner Redstone’s, but only if he’s right and the classic “Socrates is a man…” syllogism is, for once, wrong.

Now THAT would have been smart. She should have seen the writing on the wall, and taken a stance. Talk about drama. That would have raised her likability factor hugely, while jumping the gun on her “not being fired” four months after DL.

This is a big mistake in my opinion. A big reason I watch GDLA is because of Jillian. Yes change is inevitable and everyone is replaceable but its “chemistry” that makes things work. Maria looks like a great addition to the morning team and I have enjoyed seeing Lauren S1van given more to do in the studio. However there should be room for Jillian as she contributes a great deal to the show with her personality and humor. Jillian, move to NY and join Howard Stern’s morning team!

I can’t believe it took them this long to get rid of her. She’s drives viewers away with her narcissism and unprofessionalism. Watching her childish antics was grating and stupefying that someone could do such a terrible job but earn so much for it. Don’t knock KTLA for hiring a younger/more attractive replacement because Jillian was originally hired for being that same type at one point in time. The hand that feeds you can also give you a backhand and based on her tweet she doesn’t seem too surprised or insulted. It’s the business. Let Jillian find a place that she’s better suited…like the TV Guide “channel” or some web based show where people want to watch/hear someone be obnoxious.
I watched Good Day LA for a long time…but after a while, Jillian started to get a little annoying and I didn’t watch as often…I can’t put my finger on it, but it seemed like she would interrupt interviews a lot more, drop names (the Kardashians, etc.), push her own personal political agenda, etc…I watched her (and Lauren Sanchez, who absolutely drives me nuts!) intentionally start arguments with people they didn’t agree with who were guests on the show…the idea of interviewing is to stay neutral and professional, and ask pertinent questions…it didn’t seem like a ‘news magazine’ type show that it was touted to be…that’s not to say that Jillian isn’t a nice person…I don’t know her at all, of course…but the dynamics of the show began to change in the last few years and it felt like I was watching the “Jillian Show”. I wish her luck in whatever she does in the future though.
Jillian has a ton of charisma and was great at her job— this is a blessing for her….she’s will be hired somewhere better in a nanosecond
Well it’s been nice Good Day LA. The show has steadily going downhill since Dorothy left ( and I wasn’t a big Dorothy Lucey fan) now that Jilly is gone I won’t watch the show at all. I don’t like the new, co anchors at all. Sorry Steve. I’ll miss you guys. Good luck!

Maria Sansone doesn’t have the quick answers like Jill even though she sometimes heckled Steve…they were great together. Who’s next, Jean Martirez, Tony McEwing, Lisa Breckenridge and Jean Martirez? Hope not, or I will find some other station to watch early in the morning. How do you think you got to be #1 for so many years, only because of Dorothy & Jillian….we’ll see what happens now. I know Steve Edwards is the mainstay, but he needs the others to make it work.

I don’t know how she kept from bashing right on tv. I think she could have had a law suit over the way he spoke to her and making fun of her position there at the studio. That, I believe, would be grounds for some sort of compensation.

I believe they mocked God a few times with there slander about Lucys Christianity, I think that is one thing that could catch up with you.
If Jean Martirez does one more latino themed location shoot, I will just stop watching. Period. I’m Mexican on my mom’s side, but the latino-centric beat stories are overkill. There is more to being in SoCal than that latino crap.

Just very disappointed with Fox right now. Steve is a great newscaster but the great relationship between him and Jillian made the show fun as well as informative. You could see the sadness in Steve’s face today when he said I miss you Jillian. I have to laugh as well at the haters because jealousy is a laughable thing. So what if she shows skin and isn’t perfectly lady like. She is real and knows how to use her assests.
I used to tune in to GDLA and I would get all the headlines and even had time for a little gossip. Then Jillian high jacked the show with all her causes and fashion tips and soon I had to tune in to other stations to know what was going on. The best part of GDLA the last two decades was when Jillian wasn’t talking. I’m sure the playboy pics will be entertaining but leave the speaking for people that have worth while things to say that don’t exclusively involve your own personal needs and wants. Good Bye
