It will kill at the BO…
this reminds me a little of ‘wedding crashers.’ that movie started out light and funny, then the touch football on the lawn scene changed the mood, and it became more serious and angry. this trailer starts out light, and then there are fiery explosions. i guess the comedy was not strong enough, so the studio figured lets bring in some teenage boys with violence and loud noise.
Because it’s aiming at the lowest common denominator and that’s who will see it … the general public.
This looks worse than DUE DATE & HORRIBLE BOSSES – the latter which was absolutely terrible and a waste of talent.
Huge hit…. Melissa and a teddy bear – two biggest stars in hollywood.
Painfully annoying. Loud. Stupid. Obnoxious. One of the worst comedy trailers ever made which means the movie is even worse. There was a great concept here that could have been really smart and really funny. Instead they went for the dumbest lowest common denominator.
Why not try to do something intelligent with the concept? No that would be too much trouble and besides audiences don’t care they love dumb humor. Making a smart witty comedy with progressively more complicated situations is much too difficult.
Besides this is from a producer of Ted so it has to be good. Right?
This is a win.
From the guy who was given TED to produce…
I think it looks really funny. I think they’re both really great. There was some really funny stuff in “Horrible Bosses.” I agree though about “from a producer of ‘Ted.’” Why not “from a grip off the set of ‘Ted’?” Chain lightning is chain lightning. “From the studio that you brought you ‘Ted’ “…OK then…but…
Having said that apparently I don’t know English judging from the way that I type. Definitely too quick on the “Submit Your Comment” tab for sure.
Cha-Ching!
Jason Bateman: One of the most underrated and talented actors in Hollywood.
Melissa McCarthy: The reason I won’t see this movie.
This is all Jim Garavente. Give credit where credit due.
just looks blah. not good, not bad just blah. i guess if there’s no other comedy release at the same time or holding over from previous weeks it’ll do fine. not a blockbuster or a flop.
The fact that the studio moved the release date from May to February is not a vote of confidence.
probably due to test results.
Jason Bateman is a really fantastic actor, but I feel like his recent roles are repetitive choices. I’d love to see him doing something fresh.
Love them both a lot. Didn’t love the trailer. Didn’t even like the trailer much. When the jokes in the trailer are repetitive, it all looks lazy. Still, I hope it makes them both even bigger stars.
Wow! That looks horrible! I can see why they pushed it back to the winter. This is not a summer movie. Also “From A Producer of Ted”. Really? What marketing tool came up with that one?
ha, ha. Looks likes she’s channeling Mimi from the Drew Carey Show.
Jason Bateman: One of the most overrated actors in Hollywood. And overexposed.
Melissa McCarthy: The ONLY reason to see this movie.
But it still looks lame.
I love both of them… but this looks crappy and rehashed. I’ll probably still watch it on PPV though, as a time-filler.
“I live in Colorado, we don’t have beaches. We’re landlocked.”
I think that was supposed to be a laugh line? The car getting smashed in background — um we’ve seen that gag only a few thousand times now.
I cringe that these are apparently the FUNNIEST parts of this movie.
I agree with one of the commenters above- this concept had potential for something smart and funny, and instead this just looks loud and overbearing and stupid.
I was hoping that Melissa McCarthy would use her success to generate her own projects (which I know she’s trying to do) and play a wider range of roles. Instead, it looks like she’s continuing to play characters who are as complex as a piece of cardboard. It’s almost insulting (to her.)
This looks terrible. I swear this was an episode of the old TV show, What’s Happening.
I love both of them, too, but this director is awful. Can’t set up a shot, can’t make the lighting work, blocking is awkward. Time for him to go away.
This movie is east of Glendale. In other words, PASS-Adena.
This is a variation on the same exact character McCarthy played in BRIDESMAIDS, as is the role she’s playing opposite Sandra Bullock in THE HEAT. Her team would be smart to advise her to stop taking such similar parts before she locks herself into a box she can never get out of. Huge miscalculation on their part.
TALK TALK by T.C. Boyle. The intelligent, funnier, and dramatically gripping version of this exact same premise.
Looks lame – but shouldn’t be a surprise. Only a few comedy directors know what they are doing and it’s a tough genre. Considering his last were 4 Christmases and Horrible Bosses – the tone is of no surprise. Its the type of movie I walk out of – but much of America eats it up like deep friend donuts and that baby Boo Boo creature.
Lowest common denominator – as someone mentioned.
