Hey Hollywood, don’t be surprised if your staffers show up late or disappear longer for lunch today because they’re trying to score the new faster and sleeker and longer battery life iPhone 5. Lines from New York to Tokyo, San
Francisco to Sydney (pictured) are reported outside Apple stores selling the bigger screen platform better for watching movies and TV and gaming. (But the new Maps system is said to be a bust…) Already huge crowds jammed stores in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. AP says the first customers in Hong Kong were greeted by employees cheering, clapping, high-fiving, and chanting “iPhone 5! iPhone 5!” as they were escorted one-by-one through the front door. The smartphone is also being launched in the U.S., Britain, Canada, France and Germany. It will go on sale in 22 more countries a week later. But some employees of Apple’s French
stores voted to strike today, aiming for maximum impact by timing the walkout to coincide with the debut of the iPhone 5. The strike was called by one of the main unions representing workers at Apple’s stores in Paris and some other French cities after the breakdown of talks over working conditions. Demands by the SUD union, which represents about a quarter of Apple Store employees, included the installation of water fountains, providing meal vouchers, and paying a 13th month of salary as is common at French companies. Apple received 2 million orders in the first 24 hours of announcing iPhone 5′s release date. Analysts have estimated Apple will ship as many as 10 million of the new iPhones by the end of September.

you’re fucking kidding me…..

Hipsters, Losers, Spoiled, a Loss of a Generation all standing in front of us…
Sad to see so much waste.
Please don’t lump in all of my generation with the zombies who dutifully line up for each of Apple’s new creations.
I still get a kick out of the Samsung commercials where someone walks by the hipsters in line with a Galaxy S3 and the people in line see the features that the iPhone5 lacks and can only respond with “yeah but it’s not an iPhone.”
The new map system a bust? The new IOS update has it, and its f-ing amazing. Not sure who/what your sources are.
Have you tried using the maps? They are infamously terrible compared to what they replaced (Google).
Let’s see if they still smile when they try to find anything on Apple’s map system. ‘Bust’ is a Royal understatement.
It’s like Bread & Cicuses, keep them distracted as Rome burns…
I recall standing in line for the advance midnight showing of Tim Burton’s “Batman” at Mann’s Chinese Theatre and for “Poltergeist” in Orange County.
I’ve stood in the unemployment line, when people were required to appear in person at the EDD to file a claim.
I remember the gas lines of the 70s.
I know people who camp out in queues for book signings, concert tickets, movie premieres, etc.
But for a phone?
ah, comments…
after 6 years of this, don’t you guys get bored saying the same thing year after year? some people don’t like apple. we know. we get it.
and why is it okay to stand in line for the latest big hollywood blockbuster but not a phone, which you’ll use far more often and probably enjoy much more?
Wow…bunch of sourpusses on here. Does a group of people gettin in line with a little excitement over new tech really affecting your quality of life? If it is, might want to reassess.
“Demands by the SUD union, which represents about a quarter of Apple Store employees, included the installation of water fountains, providing meal vouchers, and paying a 13th month of salary as is common at French companies.”
…. are you freaking kidding me? Meal vouchers? A 13th month of salary “as is common at French companies?”
*Facepalm*
No wonder the French are so worthless and lazy these days. Not only do they demand these outrageous things, but they go on strike the day it hurts innocent customers the most? What a bunch of spoiled, self entitled selfish sacks of human waste.
13th month salary is what they call their christmas bonus. Don’t hate. Investigate.
