Back in June, Joel Silver inked a 12-film distribution deal with Universal Pictures a month after he ended his 25-year relationship at Warner Bros. At the time, we told you the Matrix and Sherlock Holmes producer made a pitch to the Venice Neighborhood Council to purchase the 1939-built U.S. Post Office on Windward Circle. Now that deal has been completed, with the facility to become the new home of Silver Pictures once restoration and renovations are completed sometime in 2014. The building was constructed as part of the Federal Works Progress Administration and is the latest historical structure purchased by Silver, who bought the Frank Lloyd Wright-built Storer House. “As a longtime preservationist of architecture, I’m thrilled to move forward with the restoration and renovation of the former Venice Post Office,” said Silver. “While we are still in the very early stages of the process, I am committed to the rehabilitation of the building and its unique WPA features and the restoration of the treasured Edward Biberman ‘Story of Venice’ mural. I am also committed to being a good neighbor in the Venice community, whether through providing public access to the space or in developing programs for the community related to film, art and architecture.”

great Joel
Now start being nice to people – the yelling is a bore
Cool.
I think this is fantastic news. Great for the neighborhood.
good on you, joel.
Awesome!!! Great for Venice, for LA architecture preservation and conservancy. Wonderful to see riches made in LA invested in LA! Best wishes to Joel Silver Pictures!!!
re: yelling at people. I have noticed that arrogant attitude is prevalent in Hollywood. That bore doesn’t fly in other cities.
naming it after his brother?
You, I, and three other people get that. More if he rebuilds it union.
Whoa
Fantastic. What a wonderful mind and eye to have purchase such a treasured So Cal property. Go in harmony with the “Common Mind” Joel and do it right, as you always do. Good for you. Terrific!
The joke here is Joel Silver has finally gone Postal!
Thx Joel! Now you’ll have to read my script…since it’s coming thru your own mailroom at your own post office!
Yay Hama Sushi across the street! A longtime neighborhood favorite…!!!
Joel made good movies back in the day (last boy scout, lethal weapon, commando, etc) but after the matrix he started to make crappy movies and doesn’t know what audiences like. Just like allot of the hollywood top names there but trying to cash in on remakes. Joel should just get out of the movie biz and hollywood should start bringing in new people who have new and fresh movie ideas. Instead of blaming the internet for movie sales being down they should look at the movies there putting out there all junk and remakes.
