UPDATED: J.J. Abrams is staying put at Warner Bros Television. The uber-writer-director-producer has closed a new three-year development and production deal with the TV studio, where Bad Robot Prods — which Abrams runs with long-time partner Bryan Burk — has been based since 2006. Back then, Abrams inked simultaneously two massive deals: a first-look pact with Paramount and a development/production deal with Warner Bros TV. In February, Abrams and Paramount extended their deal through end of 2015. Now the new pact with WBTV will keep him at the studio until 2015.
With his old deal coming up, I hear there was no question on Warner Bros’ or Abrams’ mind whether to continue the relationship. Like with any deals of that scope (the original deal reportedly guaranteed $4 million plus $2 million in overhead per year), it took time for terms to be negotiated. (UPDATE: We hear a major sticking point was the fact that the Bad Robot-produced CBS series Person of Interest is not available online.) But while talks were going on, it was business as usual on the development and production side, as evidenced by the pilot production commitment that Bad Robot and WBTV landed at Fox last night for a robot-cop drama written by Fringe showrunner J.H. Wyman. Under the extension, Bad Robot will continue developing new TV projects to be produced in association with Warner Bros Television, with Abrams and Burk serving as executive producers.
During its first term at WBTV, Bad Robot fielded a number of series and has three on the schedule for this coming season: the departing Fringe, newcomer Revolution and rising sophomore Person Of Interest.
It has been a busy summer of gigantic production deal-making at WBTV, which just closed a new pact with comedy heavyweight Chuck Lorre. The two join a roster of long-time WBTV producers such as Jerry Bruckheimer and John Wells. Abrams is repped by attorney Jim Jackoway and manager David Lonner.

ABC needs to re-sign Shonda Rhimes now!
Meh…
Smart move Warner Brothers!
Loved the pilot for Revolution. Reminds me of the Heroes pilot.
Jack, Did you see a different Revolution pilot than I did? Maybe they did re-shoots. I saw the one that they released to generate buzz for the show. It was horrifically bad. I was laughing after about 5 minutes. I love the walking dead and hunger games. I assumed this was kind of an amalgam of those two. Don’t get me wrong it seems like a great idea it’s just that the person to person dialogue and the acting was terrible. I have to ask how much involvement did J.J. actually have in the production? The poor quality makes me think it was just his name and money that’s it. I don’t think he would allow something this bad if he was the principle creator. My guess is it fails after about 3 episodes.
It reminded me of “The Event” the over all narrative kept me watching but the dialogue and acting made me cry. There are things at the end of the Revolution pilot that make me want to watch another episode but the flaws were very hard to swallow.
My main concerns.
1. The world doesn’t seem real. Life would probably be harder after 15 years of no electricity.
2. The sets look very poor. Cheap unrealistic.
3. The brother of the female lead with the bow and arrow is atrocious. 5 minutes into the pilot you will notice he is a terrible actor. glib glib glib.
4. The actor from Breaking Bad is really bad. You know something is wrong when an actor is superb on another show but sucks on another. I guess it must be the material written or directing.
5. I’m not sure what else but there is something wrong with this show. Reactions and ratings will reflect. I bet huge numbers first week then free fall in ratings. I really wanted this show to be good. Great idea bad execution.
WBTV have Chuck Lorre – king of commedy/sitcoms and J.J. Abrams king of sci fi dramas!!! That is why every year WB beat all other producers and sell way more shows than them.
One more show like Person Of Interest, alias or Lost and he will be the best of all time. Genius, smart and with so many quality shows.
ps Many people are angry and ask why Person Of Interest is not available online. Its just stuped from WB! This show is with 15 million viewers for rookie season. Only CSI ans NCIS have better rookie seasons. Come on WB not so greedy.
