Here’s a first look at the unlikely casting but uncanny resemblance of Jane Fonda as former First Lady Nancy Reagan. Alan Rickman plays President Ronald Reagan in The Butler, currently filming in New Orleans. Fonda reportedly appears in just a few scenes. The pic stars Forest Whitaker as White House butler Eugene Allen whose career spanned 34 years there. Director Lee Daniels adapted the screenplay with Danny Strong from a Washington Post article.

Makes me want to puke.
The Hollywood hypocracy is unbelievable. Looks like NAncy, but to have this freaking idiot portray such a wonderful woman is unforgivable and disgusting.
Hear Hear!
I enjoy Rickman’s work…I would tell him…”Run, Fool, Run!”
She does look like Nancy and she is great actress.
We all have flaws…including Mrs Reagan.
As a vet I say “get a grip”
It’s a movie!
If you want to make Mrs Reagan an angel….do some research first!
WE ALL HAVE FLAWS!!!
Yes, we all have flaws, B=but to have a TRAITOR play one of the greatest first ladies of ALL TIME is a slap in the face to Virtnam Veterans and every person that has ever served our country. It’s disgusting and cruel to the men she betrayed!
Never in my lifetime would I ever think that this could happen. A MAJOR MISTAKE!!!!! Maybe the fellow Viet Nam protesters will watch it.
get bent
Get a life. It’s 2012.
What does the fact that it’s 2012 have to do with this? Can’t you see that the matter being discussed has nothing to do with what year it is now? The casting is, at best, poor judgment. Fonda’s actions when we were at war, declasred or not, are not ones to be taken lightly by those of us who were in the military at the time. Her actions were not a temporary, accidental slip of the tongue, but were premeditated with full understanding of what their impact would be. Stating that it’s 2012 is a cop-out.
People like Barry hardly qualify to have a say about intellectual point of view, especially when it comes to a long time traitor of this country. And no, we won’t forget as long as I have a breath in me.
This country is so unforgiving and full of hypocrisy. That was over 30 years ago. UGGH…
And how old where you at the time. Doesn’t really matter, you don’t get it either way!!!
I have some bad news for Hollywood. Fonda looks far more like Nancy Pelosi than she does Nancy Reagan. Epic fail all around.
It’s good that they cast Fonda as Nancy Reagan for one simple reason. Very few people will be confused about the movie’s intent and agenda.
This is why I don’t go to the Movies anymore you want to talk about out of touch… I’ll save my money with the economy that the Actors and Actresses have pushed and the Obama Admin… money is to hard to come by and Jane Fonda actions in the Vietnam War.. I’ll pass.
Get over it and “Jane Fonda actions in the Vietnam War”. Jane Fonda is a great actress and a person who made her own choices. That is what this country is all about.
Yes this country is about making your own choices. I’ll make my choice to not see any of Jane Fonda’s movies.
Are you for reals. This woman should have been convicted of a war crime. She is not American. To all of you that support the woman that has a name that rhymes with Mr. Hunt. You say it was a long time ago. Lets talk about Pearl harbor. Lets talk about the Korean war, hell lets talk about 9/11. So i am just supposed to forget about 9/11 because it was a long time ago. Shame on you.
Amen! This is America, Jane Fonda has a constitutional privilege to act in any movie in this country that she wants to, and if the producer pays her to. You are not paying her, the producer is. So shut up and sit down, all you haters.
Ditto…what a joke! And is that picture of Reagan? He was much better looking!
And your point is?
Geez…did I stumble on to the “we hate Jane Fonda” fan club site? People, get over it. She has apologized over and over again, acknowledged she was wrong; it was a mistake made by a very young, idealistic person during a turbulant time in our history (I know, I lived through it like so many of you). Do you normally hold on to stuff like this in your day to day life? Is so, you must be very angry and unhappy people most of the time. Give the women a break and let her do her job as an actor. I think it’s time to let go of that 40+ year grudge.
Wow… Ok, let’s start at the beginning of your statement.
“She has apologized over and over again” — Uh, no she hasn’t. The closest she’s gotten was a half-hearted mention of how she might have been ‘positioned’ by the North Vietnamese on the AA guns as she was ‘dazzled’ by the local poetry. The most recent occurrence of this tripe was concocted to help resurrect her dead career after a landslide victory by George W Bush in 2004, when she ascertained being a noted leftist radical was not popular at that moment.
“acknowledged she was wrong” — Not even close. Once the tide turned in 2008, suddenly it was popular to be a leftist radical again. She adamantly reiterated that she was NOT sorry for anything she did, her recorded statements, or her political activities. Just the fact that she sat on an AA gun, ‘dazzled’ and teary-eyed by that damnable poetry. Oh those Beatniks. Hypnotic lot, those.
“it was a mistake” — Very good! You’re now 1-for-3.
“by a very young, idealistic person during a turbulant time in our history” — Swing and a miss. She was in her THIRTIES and knew EXACTLY what she was doing. And she wasn’t ‘idealistic’; the word is ‘traitorous.’
The rest of your paragraph is a lame attempt to 1) relate to people you cannot POSSIBLY empathize with, and 2) psycho-analyze people you know nothing about, thereby marginalizing their pain, which makes you arrogant, cold-hearted, and unjust.
SON OF A VIETNAM VETERAN WHO WAS SPAT UPON & CALLED BABY KILLER WHEN HE RETURNED HOME, PROUDLY CARRYING THE TORCH OF HATRED FOR “HANOI JANE.”
Forget??
If you were drafted and sent VietNam (not of your own free will), followed orders, saw friends die, when ammo ran out you dug in, two to a hole, with only your helmets above ground, because weather prevents reinforcment, while the enemy shells you for two days. And when help does come, you find that your partner in the hole died a day ago, and when you finally get back to San Fransico, an angry crowd spits on you, YOU DON’T FORGET THAT.
Nobody thinks the Vietnam war was a good idea, but Jane went further. She supported attacks on our own people who did nothing more than get drafted, follow orders, get used, abused, and spit on when they came back if they were lucky enough to come back. Yes, Jane was in her 30′s. That’s old enough to know better and old enough be accountable for what you do. Sorry Jane, no sympathy here. And your right, I DON’T FORGET and I never will.
I am proud that, now, we at least support our soldiers, even we don’t support the cause. But, if I findout who sponsors this show I will boycott their products.
I agree with your comments wholeheartedly! Jane Fonda is and will always be a Traitor to this country in my eyes!!!!!
“Rehabilitation” is not an option for traitors because they will never change. Her apologies are insincere. This is one move that neither I, nor any of my relatives will go to see. I have been boycotting Hanoi Jane for over 40 years now.
Ooooh. And yet she has survived and had a very successful career.
She has never apologize..moron. She has said, I was young, in an abusive marriage and I didn’t know it would turn out the way it did. Please read learn the history before you go stating things you don’t know. Jane Fonda was a tramp and couch actress in Hollywood…
Thanks MarineRick for this post amidst the utter hate and ignorance spewing forth. Fonda has apologized, time and again. She has explained the situation and yes, how stupid she was. Have none of you, spewing your hate and pointing your finger at a woman, never made a mistake? Never f&#@ed up in a monumental way, and regretted it?
Instead of casting stones why don’t think about your own mistakes and find some compassion or humanity. When you make a mistake don’t you expect people to forgive you?
It states here that Fonda’s in the MOVIE for a brief time. It’s a movie about someone else entirely.
Put things in perspective and take your rants elsewhere.
In all my mistakes, did I ever cause thousands of young boys —their “LIVES”.
Would you forgive Charles Manson, or Bin Laden ???????? After all, they just made a mistake when they were YOUNG .
Dear Red,
One should forgive, but never forget!!!!
thankyou for the nicest and most respectful of comments! I’m in agreement with you wholeheartedly……At least a couple of us on this site are adults! thanks again.
Amen!
You ignorant ass. Apparently you are too young to recall Vietnam, or her actions that caused our prisoners to be tortured and her lies about how well they were being treated. Maybe you dont recall the propaganda pictures she posed for sitting on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun, a weapon that was used to take American lives.
Oh, but she apologized? You, junior, are a damned moron.
40 years old, forget about it? We remember it whenever we place flowers on the grave-site, a life that could have been but not for her actions in Vietnam! You disgrace the memory of our loved one!
Straight to VHS.
“Uncanny resemblence?” Jane Fonda couldn’t hold a candle to Nancy Reagan!
well , thats your version. Nancy was no saint
This is the most disgusting idea to ever come out of Hollywood (and that’s saying a lot). I hope it’s a flop and they lose a bundle. Of all people to play Nancy Reagan – a traitor! ! !
There are few things I
have strong visceral reactions to,
but Hanoi
Jane ‘s participation in blatant
treason, is one of
them.
Please take the time to forward to as many
people as you possibly can.. It will eventually
end up on her computer and she needs to know
that we will never forget.
What a communist bich she is.
Hanoi Jane, at it again. Several million of us Vietnam vets will stay away from any movie she’s in.
Semper Fi, Archy.
Roger that. Fonda playing Mrs Reagan is as insulting as could be. Except maybe Clooney playing Ronnie.
RVN ’70 – ’71
Yeah, I don’t like Hitler’s war, but I feel like I should support the troops.
Ironically, it was a Jane Fonda movie, “Coming Home” that turned America from dismissing Vietnam vets as participants in a bad foreign policy and helped America begin to see them as humans caught up in something bigger than themselves. That wounded and disturbed vets in particular needed empathy.
People forget that about Jane Fonda. Short and selective memories.
“Ironically, it was a Jane Fonda movie, “Coming Home” that turned America from dismissing Vietnam vets as participants in a bad foreign policy and helped America begin to see them as humans caught up in something bigger than themselves.”
This comment is an epic fail. VN Vets STILL get shafted in employment, in government VA benefits, in just about every measure you can think of. There has BEEN NO CHANGE in the way VN vets are perceived and treated over the years.
Good for you. You are so right. It did turn the population back toward welcoming our vets home and helping them through those tough times. They knew it was a bogus war. They knew the military top guns were holding back and would not let the soldiers fight that war to win it. I remember this so very well, because 1. I was in the military at the time, and 2. My fiance was killed and we all knew this was a war for profit after awhile. It became evident as heck that the Vietnamese were no threat to the US, but why have the war? PROFITS, DRUG RUNNING AND MONEY LAUNDERING. THOSE WERE THE MONEY MAKERS AND HOW MANY SOLDIERS GOT HOOKED ON DRUGS WHILE THERE….. OUR LEADERSHIP IN THE PENTAGON DID THAT TO OUR BOYS. ANYBODY REMEMBER AIR AMERICA? Who do you think delivered those drugs. Jane fonda was kind in not discussing those things that she knew about until well after the war. Give her a break. Free speech and all. right??? Or don’t you like our Constitution?
love alan rickman. but no.
oh boy! hanoi jane as Nancy…that’ll be a completely unbiased portrayal, im sure.
Ths director doesn’t realize that the public still can’t look at Fonda’s face ugh! And will not see movie with her in it,
lexiedogmom–Maybe you cannot, but that’s not true of the public in general. She has had a successful career. There is a relatively small handful of people who have Jane Fonda Derangement Syndrome.
Are you just completely out of the loop?! Or just really not too bright? There are millions of people who will go to a film with Jane in it! She’s a great person, an excellant actress, a grandmother, has been devoted to causes in 3rd world countries with population control and has helped many with fitness and nutrition…..She has paid her dues ….so please grow up and stop the vitriol and hatred. ..how could that possibly serve you? By hating you become worse than that which you accuse her of!
Maybe one of those third world countries is where she should live. She obviously has no patriotism to the US, being a traitor and all, causing the death of our POW’S! Great actress you say? She sure was putting on a good act when she got our POW’S to shake her hand, and trustingly put their social security numbers in her hand only to have her turn around and give them to the north Vietnamese so our men could be killed, tortured, and disfigured! Yep, great actress! I think ya got that one right! She sure fooled them!
There is no way on God’s green earth I will watch a movie by Jane Fonda, esp. one with JF as Nancy Reagan. What a travesty of casting!
This has got to be a joke! What a disgrace!!
To have Jane Fonda play Nancy Reagan is an insult to all those that died in the Vietnam war.
Shame on Hollywood
I agree what a disgrace shame on you hollywood. but look at who they support!
Fonda is a disgrace to vets and America after her Vietnam appearance and the dishonor she displayed to our vets. This movie should be boycotted.
Sick AND wrong.
DITTOS
She looks nothing like Mrs.Reagan. The guy standing next to him looks more like he is constipated than like President Reagan. Geez what blind person did the casting on this one.
Many of us Vietnam vets adore Nancy Reagan and abhor Jane Fonda. Casting Jane as Nancy is a great slap in the face to us.
What a disgrace to have jane f0nda play Nancy Reagan. I won’t be watching this film just because of who was picked to play Nancy Reagan. I thought jane was one of the many h0llyw00d actors/actresses that was going to leave the USA when their candidate didn’t get elected. As I like to say don’t let the door hit ya in the backside on your way out. I predict this film to be a flop.
As if anyone needed a good reason not to see this film, here is one.
This is one movie I won’t be paying to see!
Outrageous! This is the cultural equivalent of blasphemy. Hanoi Jane playing Mrs. Reagan?!!! Jane Fonda probably thinks it’s the most delicious irony. I think it’s a blatant slap in the face to patriots.
Actually, he does look a bit like Reagan. She still looks like Hanoi Jane but with better hair.
She looks more like Joan Rivers than Nancy Reagan.
Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan…What an insult to the classy Mrs. REAGAN
Nancy Reagon classy? Hardly…She was anorexic, controlling , sooo very materialistic..everything was about “her little Ronnie” and her having to put on appearences! What a joke! She was not a very nice mother to her kids for many years either! I really wish the rt wing faux news types would stop putting the Reagons on a pedastal!….There were major flaws in that presidency and in Nancy Reagon! And FYI, time to leave Jane Fonda alone…it’s been a 100 yrs ago and she was a young over zealous revolutionary, attempting in a backward way to have compassion for the enemy…she screwed up which she has admitted over and over! Let it go!
all americans should boycott this movie, to cast this traitorus scum bitch as nancy regan whose husband was against all of that communist scum believes in. i was in viet nam when she pulled that crap. there was no lack of servicemen wanting to pull the trigger on her and that idiot husband
Humm, total FAIL. Apparently Daniels wasn’t at all concerned about the way his actors appeared on screen and seems to have been more impressed with their own names. These two look nothing like the real thing and even the body language seems off. (When’s the last time anybody saw Nancy Reagan striking that kind of pose? She may have been hard-nosed behind the scenes, but the vampy, overly coiffed, heavily botoxed stare Fonda’s rocking here is just sort of embarrassing.)
Then again, cliché and parody is all I expect from anything Lee Daniels anyway. He’s Tyler Perry without the money (and the drag).
Her acting skills notwithstanding, casting Jane in the role of Nancy Reagan is as high a personal insult as can be made.
What’s next, Sean Penn cast as Audi Murphy?
Jane Fonda is an actress. She can act. I watch her in films. But isn’t it obvious that a person like herself, who, in her personal life, absolutely despises the Reagans, would only take such a role if it portrayed these people in the light that she would approve of, and that her portrayal would be a complete insult to these people and to those who know and love them? Nancy Reagan is still alive. She has children and grandchildren. Can we not lay off these people at least for the sake of their families? The Reagans are public persons, and they can take it, but can’t we at least wait until they are dead before we malign them in films? Couldn’t they find an actress who at least didn’t hate everything they stood for? I mean… please!
“Jane Fonda is an actress. She can act?” You have to be kidding? Jane Fonda has been nothing more then a couch actress…who made a name for herself during the late 60s and 70s. She has never accepted resonsiblity for her actions…just makes the excuses she was young. in an abusive marriage and didn’t mean it to turn out the way it did.
99% of the poster here need to learn their history.
Who said anything about maligning the Reagans? Isn’t that an assumption on your part?
Like her or loathe her, Nancy Davis Reagan had old school manners, class and breeding. Displaying those traits on the screen should be quite an acting challenge for Miss Fonda.
Do you actually think this movie will make money? Do we believe this will be in anyway factual? It will most likely be another re-writing of history, with all the characters being foils for liberal trashings.
Having that has-been Fonda in ANYTHING is a risk!!!!
Blasphemy
